I just bought a new VX chipset board which appears to be an Abit
knock-off. It is model number SM5 but no company is listed anywhere in
the manuals or on the box. It came with an update disk which said Abit
on it, and it features a jumperless configuration in software.
Anyway, I put it in and set the bus to 75mhz (it would not boot at
83mhz) and this reset my P166 to a P187. Away blazed GP2! I ran at 20fps
at Monaco with only track and sky turned off. I'm going to run at
Barcelona later today with everything (and I do mean everything) on. I
highly recommend getting a board that will do this to anybody out there
considering it. I can even switch the bus back to 66mhz and 166 on the
CPU when I'm not playing GP2 to reduce heat and stress on the system. It
is also a lot cheaper than going to a P233 or Pentium II.
The rest of my configuration -
64 MB EDO 60NS RAM
INTERGRAPH REACTOR 3D (Latest BIOS and drivers)
SOUND BLASTER AWE32
PLAYING THE "NOCDRROM" VERSION OF GP2
