gp2 and "creative ensoniq pci" soundcard problem

by <Labcage> » Fri, 08 Oct 1999 04:00:00

i just got a new smoking computer, but gp2 doesn't work with my new sound
card (creative ensoniq pci). i'd rather not wait for gp3, since i've NEVER
raced monaco with full detail on. (ok, i have now, but with no sound).

this sound card has some sort of "legacy device" settings, which resides
under a "DOS Application Settings" tab, and insists on using IRQ9. i'm out
of interrupts, would like to use 7, but my printer is on it.

sorry to bore, but i know someone in this newsgroup has one of these things
and i've messed with it long enough. any assistance would be appreciated.

sound blaster 16 emulation settings:
port=220
irq=9
8bit dma=1
16bit dma=7

mpu-401 settings:
port=220
irq=9

adlib settings:
port=388

thanks,

gp2 and "creative ensoniq pci" soundcard problem

What you need to do is go into system manager and have a look what device is
using IRQ 5 or other that GP2 will see ( I prefer 5 as most DOS games will
use that) see if that item can be configured to use IRQ 9 which is what your
soundcard is currently using, if it will you will be able to configure the
IRQ's manually but this may affect any Plug and play devices you wish to add
in the future.
In device manager you need to click on the device you want, click on
properties then resources, uncheck the use automatic settings box and you
can then set the IRQ's manually (providing that device will use the IRQ you
want to give it )
Remember to write down the original settings incase you get into trouble
!!!!

Hope this helps

gp2 and "creative ensoniq pci" soundcard problem

Ian-

Good thinking, but unfortunately, you can do all that and it will still
not work. I have no clue why, but you can get everything set up so that
in "legacy mode" for DOS, the Ensoniq AudioPCI supposedly uses the
systems resources that a standard SB would use, but neither GP2 or ICR2
can see it.

In GP2 try using the auto configure, it may make some screeching noises but
after it has set the IRQ and DMA exit and save, restart the computer and
start GP2, it should then work, if not then I'm afraid I can't help anymore
:(
I have a Vortex PCI soundcard and had similar problems which I solved as
above.

john,

sounds like you're in the same boat as me. i installed NASCAR2 to see if it
would work, since it has quite a few more soundcard options available, but
still no dice. i am not a novice when it comes to setting up hardware, so
i'm frustrated with this soundcard. when i purchased my system, i didn't
research this device as well as i should. i'm tempted to install an isa
sound card i have. just to hear gp2 again.

i will continue to work on the problem, probably until i buy nascar3 and
gp3. then i won't care. please post to this group if you figure out a fix,
or send me an email. i will post if i figure it out.
