Microsoft FF Wheel - Further Opinions!

by Huk_Phi » Fri, 30 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hi -

I was wondering if any owners  of the MS FF Wheel have made any "final"
verdicts.  I am really tempted to pick one up - but am on the fence.
Someone please try and convince me one way or the other.

Thanks,

Microsoft FF Wheel - Further Opinions!

I hated it at first; now I use it exclusively. I built a little ramp
from s***wood to prop up the back of the pedals; now they're usable.
There's even enough "feel" to walk the throttle through the fast turns
at Spa. The verdict, if this constitutes one, is that the wheel is a
vast improvement over all the others I tried. The pedals need some help.
I wonder, though, if I should have waited for the ActLabs FF.

Michael.

The steering wheel is great.

The pedals do not have enough throw.  The brake pedal really makes life
difficult when the difference between locked wheels and no braking is about
1/2 inch of travel.

Both the gas and brake pedals allow movement in about 40 to 50 degrees -
much less than then 70 to 80 present for thrustmaster pedals.  At least the
ones that I own.

Anyway - I just purchased the unit, and I do like it - though the pedal unit
might cause me to return the whole thing due to the shortness of travel in
the gas and brake.  If the gas and brake pedals travelled more - I would
keep the unit hands down.

If you've already tried one, then this is probably not too helpful, but if
not, here goes:

I tried the Saitek wheel, and the FF was very much acceptable, and the
wheel felt sturdy enough and the resistance was good with FF on. I've
tried the MS and CH FF sticks before, and I though they sucked, so I had
very bad prejudices against FF, but this wheel put me back on track.
