I was wondering which 3d video card is better, sierra or orchid. I
already have a very good 2d card but want the best 3d card out there.  I
primarily play n2,icr2, and gp2.  some duke and quake.

Well the easy answer is that the 3Dfx cards, like the Orchid and
Diamond, are superior.  Since you already have a good 2D card, they are
a perfect fit as they only do 3d (the Sierra and other Rendition cards
would replace your current card).  Unfortunately they will no nothing
for the games you mentioned, with the exception of Quake (id's OpenGL
port GLQuake) and perhaps eventually N2 (3Dfx has talked about doing a
port).  For now, all of those games will run on your 2d card the same
as always, oblivious to the addition of a 3Dfx card.  They do have the
limitation of not being able to accelerate 3D in a window (not a huge
drawback but for some it may be an issue).  There is the obvious cost
factor as well.  Still, if you want the best 3d, they are the way to
go.
