Adjusting AI strength in GPL

Adjusting AI strength in GPL

by Robert Rathbon » Mon, 08 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I happened to see this file in the GPL directory:  gpl_ai.ini

Looking in this file I found this line in the [ driver_modeling ] section:

global_driver_mod_scaling = 1.000000     ; scaling coefficient for all
driver personality parameters loaded from DRIVER.INI

I wonder if adjusting this value to a fraction of 1.0 will affect the
strength of the AI drivers?  For instance, 0.900000 might reduce the AI to
90% of their normal strength.  There are other values immediately after this
one, but this one seems to be a global coefficient affecting all AI
strengths.

Has anybody else noticed this, or knows anything about this file?  There
seems to be a lot of values that could be changed in here.  In fact, I bet
if you didn't know what you were doing, you could really***up the AI
messing with this file.  I noticed values that seem to set reaction time,
how far ahead on the track they could see, and other things that could be
tuned.  This may be like editing the Windows registry:  tread carefully!

Any ideas?
