As I said in another thread, I would post info about my VROC results
with the LanCity cable modem I'm using.
So far the only thing I can comment about, is that I experience very
long datatraffic halts, something I didn't have when I was on 28k8
modem/former ISP.
But here's the very depressing bit : I'm on cable and I can't join or
host on VROC :(:(:(.
I've been looking at the ISP's site, and there it is. They say online
*** is not possible at the moment ( :( again, :( ) .
But I've seen some possible work arounds come by here in ras (one I'm
addressing below), so maybe someone could help me out.
First of all, I've been joining and hosting before with my 28k8 modem
through my former ISP (what I luckily still can, I need that daily VROC
shot :)).
So, back to the cable thingy :
When I add alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1 to my core.ini , VROC shows my
IP adress 10....... , and GPL shows it when joining or hosting.
When joining, opening the channel by GPL will time out. When hosting
everything seems fine, but no one joins, so it either doesn't show up on
the VROC room or people simply can't join (gonna get my old P120 online
again, so that I can check that myself too).
I've been looking around a bit and here's what WINIPCFG.EXE reports :
(I'm acting a bit paranoid here, so I'm not typing the full IP adresses:))
------------------------------
DNS server : 172........
Node type : Broadcast (is that nodetype ? I'm using Dutch version)
NetBIOS Scope-id : empty
IP Routing : not
NetBIOS conversion uses DNS : not
WINS Proxy enabled : not
------------------------------
IP adres : 10.......
Subnetmask : 255......
Standard gateway : 10......
DHCP server : 172.......
Primairy WINS server : empty
Secundary WINS server : empty
As Micheal Carver stated in one of his posts, I've already tried hard
coding the info into my TCP/IP setup, to no avail.
And ofcourse I've contacted my cable ISP about it (as I remember someone
mentioned here that GPL uses one specific UDP port (which?), I told them
this too).
Hope someone can help me out here,
