GPL Cable Modem Problems

by BRH » Sat, 10 Nov 2001 10:24:25

Hi Guys,

This is directed to you "techies" out there.  My nephew is just getting
into GPL, and would like to beat up on his uncle in an online match
race.  Unfortunately (or fortunately for me) he can't seem to connect to
VROC, nor can he direct connect.  He's using a cable modem, and I'm on
dial-up, so I have no clue on how to help him..

I have 2 related questions:

1.  The symptoms are that he can't get a racelist in VROC, even after
I've given him
the latest VROC address.  He sees other people in GPL chat logging into
races, but he can't see any.  Can anyone provide me with settings for
him to try, or better yet, a
core.ini file which is geared towards using a cable modem?

2.  When we try direct connect, his cable modem doesn't show-up in GPL.
(Only his dial-up modem, which is in the PC, but disabled, shows up.)  I
suspect that he needs to adjust his core.ini file since he's using a
copy of mine.  What would he have to change in core.ini for to allow GPL
to "see" his cable modem?

Thanks!

You need to make sure you have:

[ Communications ]
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

in the core.ini file.

GPL Cable Modem Problems

I had the same problem.  I added the lines below to the core.ini file and it
still didn't work.  It was only after I also went into VROC and reset the
GPL path (even though it was already the correct path) that I could see the
racelist.  All you need to do is:

Go to the VROC Menu and select Options
On the GPL Folder tab re-browse to the GPL folder location and press OK
(even if the path there is correct).
You may also need to restart VROC.

It should now work with the extra lines in the core.ini file.
