I can join and get into the garage etc.  About 2-3 seconds after I get
in the car, I get a bluescreen fatal exception in Windows.  Locks up
tight and have to soft boot.

Single player is fine, no problems whatsoever.

grrrr,
Gerald

FWIW, this happened about 3 times.  Eventually, I was able to connect,
get in the car, and stay connected.  It worked fine the rest of the
night, multiple races and multiple servers.  Not sure what to make of
it; but I hope it doesn't come back.

DANGIT now it is happening in single player.  It seems to coincide
with me mashing the accelerator pedal.  I can sit on pit lane
indefinitely, but as soon as I mash the gas, it locks up.

Here is the error info:

Fatal Exception 0E at 0028:0296053A

I did the DirectX diagnostics and both DirectDraw and Direct3D failed
at points.  I guess my machine doesn't really like DX8.1

Strange thing is, this game has worked, this is only an intermittant
problem.  The worst kind.

Doing the driver update thing now....

If direct X is having problems on your system, then most likely that will
translate to racing games severly.  Especially if you are using the Direct
control settings.    Your best bet would be to debug direct X before worring
about N 2002.  Until you have DX working properly, then anything else would
be just counter productive...
Have you ever erased your windows folders and started fresh?  Usually at
least once a year I totally wipe windows out and re-install.  sometimes
sooner if I begin to get problems that don't have easy solutions.

Well, coming to pretty much the same conclusion, I did a slash and
burn last night after posting that last message.  Norton Ghost to the
rescue once more!

I skipped DX8.1 and stuck with the drivers that came with my card.  So
far, everything is butter.
