CTFJ & PC lockups?

by keit » Sun, 13 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I tried the ctfj utility and found it very useful. After installing and
configuring it, all was well. However, the PC then started locking up randomly.
In one day,  I must have rebooted it 6 to 8 times. It was never that bad before,
so I thought back to see what had changed recently, and ctfj was the only thing
that came to mind.

So, I closed the ctfj application. Now the PC has been humming along for 24
hours without a single lockup. This could just be coincidence, but I doubt it.

Is anyone else having their PC lockup more than usual with ctfj installed?

By the way, running Windows 98 Second Edition, Celeron 300A at 450MHz 2.0V, 128M
SDRAM, Creative Labs TNT AGP, Vortex PCI sound card. This machine will reliably
run GPL all day long :)

Thanks,
Keith.

I've used version 2 for months and version 3 for about 3 weeks.  Great
program that has made my sim life MUCH more pleasant with no problems.
Never have run it all the time, though.

I had a couple of reports early on with the 2.10 version and a
particular sim, Flanker as I recall, where it would hang when the sim
exited, but nobody has complained about anything other than that. It
might be something in W98SE. I've only seen a beta of that, it didn't
look like any of the joystick components (VJOYD, etc.) had changed at
all, but it could be some updated system DLL involved in the
Configuration Editor that's causing it. Do you get any sort of error
message when it hangs?

CTFJ & PC lockups?

it is a shareware utility that was originally developed to
deal with Win95's problem of not being able to center
a joystick during calibration.  Hence the name....
Center The F*&#)*# Joystick
CTFJ
But the little program has evolved into a pretty nifty
item that allows you to tailor how much reaction your
stick measures.  Many guys here have been using it
to Desensitize(new word) their brake pedals for GPL
so that they are less prone to lock up.  Of course if the
FIA found out about this they would ban monitors to stop
sim drivers from using driver aids...
