GPL - online car skins. How?

by Kev » Thu, 02 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I've been playing GPL for a few months now and getting the hang of it.

Me and a friend regularly race online together against AI cars and the
odd delve into VROC but we'd like to make our cars more recogisable. I
downloaded some skins and in replays MY car looks fine in it's new skin
but HIS car still looks the same and to HIM MY car looks like an
ordinary lotus. Is it possible that he can see my car skin and vice versa?
I know about putting the mip files (eg lot4.mip for lotus number 4) into
the cars/cars67/lotus directory but even if I cover all number by making
files from lot1-lot19 his car still looks like a regular lotus.

Any helps appreciated.

thanks

Kev

I'm not exactly sure about this, but I doubt very much that your version of
GPL will send all of your skins to everyone else in a race.  Therefore, it
is impossible for anyone else's machine to know what you've done with the
skins on your computer.

Hmmm.. yeah figured that may be the case. Anyway, what about just
between the 2 of us that race regularly, still doesn't seem to work for that.

GPL - online car skins. How?

If i remember correctly, there was an "online" car-set released
a while back.. the cars had different liveries, stripes etc, and if
everyone used the car-set, everyone saw the correct cars..
So in theory, as long as you both copy each others cars graphics
onto your own machines, you will see his car and he will see yours..

Bill Tillman's Turn 1 page has many online carsets
http://gpl.ga-sports.com/

Goto the cars section .. it was a bit slow so I couldn't get you the exact page.

I use the regular one and it really helps identify drivers in our spec races :-)

Jason.

GPL - online car skins. How?

Kev,
on your PC you can alter only the cars on your screen.
If you can manage always to race the same start-numbers, you can make a set of
car skins, which have to be installed on both PCs.
Should work
