The ecstasy and the agony!

The ecstasy and the agony!

Online GPL gets better and better. Just had two races. Hosted one for four
of us at Zandvoort and after some close racing, managed to collect Alex
Nase in an incident which was totally my fault. I got my just deserts though.
He was ok, I was dead in the water.

A while later I joined a cable hosted Monza race and at the end of practice
realised I was second about 2/10s behind Alex! This time I was determined
to play safe and make a race of it. I turtle-waxed my Lotus while I waited for
the race session to kick in, then...

Got booted :-(

So much anticipation... so much  weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth!

But it's still ***y marvellous! At risk of repeating things said many times
already, and no doubt many times again, thanks to all the cable/asdl hosts
who make racing such a thrill. I can host three or four happily on my 56k
connection, but there's nothing like a ten player session to get the pulse
racing.

Sure there are connection issues, but it's good enough as it stands to keep
me grinning!

PS Yes, I know Pod's stable as a rock online. But I don't want to "drive" Pod...
no way, not *ever*, ok?

Gee. I wonder who that cute comment is for? Here's a cute one for you too
Andrew.

It's good you never raced POD  online. You probably would of gotten your a**
kicked so badly, so often (in an ARCADE!! game), you would of quit racing
games altogether. Then you would never have found GPL.  :-(   That would of
been very, very sad.

I can see what you were implying in your little "P.S." The were a lot of
unbelievably talented drivers there. They could embarrass most people with
any sim they try. One was Arthur Axlerod (pretty damn good GPL driver, don't
you think?). He raced there at the same time as me. We both ended up at CPR
too. Small world, isn't it?

Last night at Spa I drove in a simply wonderful race at Spa. It was on a
cable modem and there were 15 drivers. I started 13th after not
qualifying but gradually I worked my way up and on the last lap of the
nine I was right on the second placed guys tail. I went for it at Masta
and got ahead but I was so busy shouting "Yeeeeessssss" I chucked it
into the wall.......
I caught the guy up again and was on his tail going into La Source. He
exercised his right to take the defensive line and I finished up in
thrid place after a banzai passing move didn't come off.

Online racing is so much fun. UK phone costs are so expensive. I'm so
annoyed!

Cheers!

GPL is the first game I've ever played online.  It's funny, I thought
I was focused on F1RS and GP2, while playing the computer AI cars.  In
hindsight I was just playing around. Now playing GPL onine, I turn off
the TV & radio, forbid my roommate from talking to me, and have to pry
my sweaty, white-knuckled hands off the wheel after a race!!

Hehe. I bet that never happens to anyone round here :-)

I think sometimes we're lucky... it makes us appreciate the time online that
much more. I'd still rather have it for free though!

Aimed at anyone daft enough to rise to the bait I guess . I was merely
pre-empting the predictable responses. Obviously wasted my breath.

It'll come as no surprise to you that I get my ass kicked in everything I try.
Quake1, Flanker, and now GPL. But winning's all relative. If I'm having fun
I've already won.

Sadly not small enough for everyone here to get on a LAN and enjoy
ourselves. I generally find it hard to dislike people I meet in the flesh. Online,
of course, that's less of an issue.

Hey Ben. Do you know how to f***en read? Seriously. You don't know what the
hell Andrew or I are even saying to each other so take the carrot out of
your a** and start chewing. I've never told ANYONE, EVER, to race POD at
r.a.s.! I haven't even touched it in a year and a half. At least have a clue
what Andrew and I are posting to each other before you feel the need to
stick up for your buddy. He chose to, out of the f**ken blue, to make a
sarcastic remark towards me. I gave it right back to him. No big deal as far
as I'm concerned.

What's_your_ problem, bud? Go to school and take some reading AND
comprehension classes.

If he doesn't enjoy racing pod, so be it, what's _your_problem, bud?  He
didn't can pod, just siad he prefers GPL.  Which I can understand.  So get
the carrot outta your ass and chill.

Ok...your point taken.  I have no idea what you say to Andrew outside this
group.

I also wouldn't know him from a bar of soap, so I wasn't "defending my
buddy"

FYI I am university educated, so you can retract that one...no
pay-per-degree over here either, pal!

You basically flamed Andrew, suggesting he avoid POD because he would get
his ass kicked.  I then flamed you because I thought your response
unjustified.  I am competent at both reading and comprehension and have
re-read your message as you requested.  I stand by my interpretation.

Deal with it.

Ben

LOL... my standard mutter when someone walks into the room during
a GPL online race is "you can watch, but don't talk".  First
developed this announcement during GP2 modem and LAN races.
Definitely intense concentration required for both <vbg>.

What you failed to do is to read the original post by Andrew (apparently),
which led to your misunderstanding of the thread, and which also prompted my
flame. Only Andrew and I know what he was attempting to say to me in his
"P.S." line.

Deal with it.
