The answer is simple you have to install the Ati driver correctly.
The alarming point is you freely explain how easy it is to reformat
everything at the drop of a hat but you are unable to do the simple task of
making XP use the graphic driver you want.
My advice is to read the simple How To's in depth they might help you move
from floundering novice to competent beginner.

What how to's AD? Where?? I'm setting up a new box and am having the same
problems.
Thanks,
Dan
I have watched many customers do things that had become 2nd nature but were
in actual fact wrongly done.
The original post showed a definite error in the Ati driver installation
where he referred to wanting to install driver A but XP which does as it
pleases and he cant stop it,installed driver B.
If he had read how to uninstall and install drivers to the letter, that would
not have happened.
Dan if i can be of any help just ask.

Thanks AD. The new box reboots when trying to run NR2003 and I *think* it's a
cable modem issue. I'll find out later today when the cable guy comes but I
also suspect that I may have to re-install the card because the log states that
it is a driver issue. Thanks for the help offer...I may just take you up on it
:)

AD,
I found an error message that may give a clue to solving my problem. If I go to Component Services\Console Root\Event Viewer(Local)\System\warning Window File Protection
The protected system file c:\windows\system32\drivers\ati2mtag.sys could not be verified as valid because Windows File Protection is terminating. Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file at a later time.

Just found this so I may try to get some help from the link included.

Don ....please use a utility like Driver Cleaner 2 , and it will leave your pc Ati (and Nvidia if needed) free before your attempt with the Omega drivers.

Also from my experience with the ATI omega drivers is you just need to make sure the ATI control panel is removed first, the drivers will be overwritten by the omega drivers. The omega drivers include their own control panel so that is why you need to remove the ATI control panel first. Also like others have said use the uninstall utilility from ATI to do a complete clean (good idea). I run a W98SE and Radeon 9200 and play around with drivers for best FPS. Hope some of this helps
