GPL: Clock Smashes & Timing

I understand that in online GPL a "clock smash" can give you an
unrealistically fast time.  I just wondered about the exact nature of
the problem and if it's still there in 1.2.  I ask because I recently
broke my personal best at Monza in an online race - but I tend to try
not to push too hard in racing.  My PB offline in the Ferrari is 1:29:3
and out of the blue I got an online time of 1:28.7.

Is this likely to be caused by a clock smash?  If so is there anyway I
can delete that time only and get my "real" best time back on the
best-laps table?

Clock smashes are definitely still there with 1.2, though the kind I'm
referring to are pretty obvious ones that have a laptime of 10s or less.

It's hard to say whether that 28.7 lap was the result of a clock smash.
The only way of knowing for sure would have been to save it and then
time the replay by hand I suppose.

Unfortunately your previous best lap of 1:29.3 will have to be changed
manually by you if you're not happy with the new PB.  You can do this by
going into your players folder and then into your driver profile folder
(Mine's called Ivington_P) and editing the player.ini file in notepad.
Scroll down towards the bottom and you should find the offending line
for Monza.  It will say something like ferR = ddddddddd 88.7xxxxxx.  The
ds represent the date so you can leave that alone just change the 88.7
part to 89.3xxxxx and it will go back to the old time.

It's not a clock smash. You just drove a better lap.

It could be a clock smash, I've had the same thing a few weeks ago, my best
eagle lap was a 1.29.5 (now I'm already down to 1.28.5's) and in an online
race I did a 1.28.7 without realising it. I'm quite sure that it had nothing
to do with me doing a better lap (8 tenths faster!)
