I'd get just about anything over a SoundBlaster Live! Card. I absolutely
HATE those things and their driver/hardware conflicts and problems.
I have a Hercules GTXP and it 's a nice card. The only reason I changed it
was that it took them MONTHS longer than anyone else to provide WinXP
drivers for it.
I purchased a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz because it was based on the same
reference hardware and software driver as the Hercules card was, and had 98%
of the same features.
It was also 1/2 the price of the GTXP.
The TBSC has been a wonderful, truly problem-free card for me.
I've never understood why it took Hercules 4 months longer to get drivers
out when the GTXP and TBSC are based on the same reference hardware and
driver set. Weird...
Take a look at the TBSC. It provides most of what the Hercules does, and
it's cheap. Around $70 these days. Make sure you get a Retail version, NOT
the OEM version.
I still have my Hercules GTXP. There's nothing wrong with it. I just don't
have a compelling reason to put it back in the machine since I have the
TBSC. Hercules screwed themselves with their pathetic driver situation with
XP, though that's not an issue any longer.
