Snip

You'll find the traction and car physics to be a little different under
Hawaii multiplayer mode than in your regular Nascar 1 racing mode. You'll
probably see slightly better speeds at most of the tracks. Best way to get
a feel for it is to practice starting the sim with the "multi" command, or
"multi -h" for svga graphics. This will put you on the tracks as they are
in hawaii, but only in testing ( single player) mode.

Hah, I remember that!  My trusty old Stealth64 2MB PCI...I had DOS
batchfiles out the wazoo to make it so that two keys would disable the
screen-blanking, then launch the game with whatever parameters...you know,
if you were a *** and felt like always starting off with "icr2 -h" ;)

I remember first upgrading that P90 from 8MB to 16MB...I thought I was hot
stuff...

Papyrus is dead?? Somehow, I don't think so.  In my opinion, Papyrus has
been and will continue to  be the leader in racing simulations. I agree
with you that 3dfx seems to be winning the battle on the graphics cards,
but it will be interesting to see what the newer rendition cards  do . I
suspect if 3dfx indeed does become the pre*** gameing graphics card,
Papyrus will start supporting it. I just wish they'd all settle on one
platform, but I guess competition keeps everyone healthy and helps keep our
costs down.

Gee, what a relative newbie I feel.  Only been posting since mid 1999.
Anyway, here's mine, which seemed way too sensible for a beginning post
to a new group.  From what I recall, I had been lurking for a short
while, but couldn't resist for long and thought everyone needed this
essential info.  :)

Subject: lost game controllers/ steering wheels

I've noticed several posts to this ng with regard to steering wheels not
being recognised anymore by Windows.  I too had this problem on my
Windows 95 system and despite several reinstalls, including a patch that
the manufacturer said needed to be run first before things would work,
nothing made any difference.

Eventually I hit upon a solution which may not be an ideal one, but it
worked for me.  In fact if anyone out there has good reason to disagree
with this possible fix then please post it here as a follow up.

The reason I'm stating this is because it involved editing the registry.

What I discovered was that although I thought I had uninstalled the
original drivers for my wheel there was still references to them in the
registry and it wasn't until I removed these references from there that
my steering wheel was detected.

So the first thing that I had done was to ensure that there was nothing
showing in Device Manager, under Sound, Video and game controllers, that
referred to my wheel.  Then because this made no difference I then went
to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\MEDIA by
clicking on the little plus sign to left of each of these folders.  In
here I found various folders starting from 0000, then 0001 and so on...

By highlighting each of the folder numbers I found that the information
in the right-hand window of some of them still referred to my steering
wheel drivers, so these numbered folders that referred to my wheel I
highlighted and deleted.

I can't remember exactly after this but I think I then was able to
restart my computer and it detected my wheel and I was able to reinstall
without any problems.

As I said earlier it may seem a bit risky for some, but if anyone else
has tried this and it worked for them, or anyone tries this and it works
please post a follow up.

Correction!  I did some more poking around and went with a REALLY old email,
one I let go to spam YEARS ago...and dug up two older posts to this NG, by
over a year before my 12/25/98 GPL post...  So old, there's no timestamp,
just an identical date of May 3, 1997...

The first was a problem with my Thrustmaster T1 in Need For Speed...I never
did figure it out...

Hey all,
I've had NFS for a while, and also with my T1.  I know you need to use the
white adapter to run it.  But that's not my problem. My problem is a
recurring, annoying thing.  Occasionally, while driving, the steering wheel
in
the game will lock to the left and stay there.  I have to reboot the
computer
to get out of it (with the joystick going 'left' its impossible to select
and
open menu options).  Any help?

The second is a rant on NASCAR2...heh...and a rant on Sierra...the
disturbing thing? I don't remember the bit about the bad CC# at all,
LOL...am I really that old at 19?

Here's where I'll disagree with you.  I wish the Brickyard and the Beach
were
on there too, but one word: LICENCING (excuse the spelling).  Sega OWNS the
right to use those tracks in video games (Daytona USA, Daytona USA CCE, Indy
500, which are good games but NOT that realistic in the sense of the looks
of
the track).  Sierra/Papy probably won't be able to get their stinkin' hands
on
them for a couple of years (and btw, one more gripe to add to the list of N2
gripes: We ordered the special 'upgrade' for $29.99 from Sierra with the
'promise' that it would be in time for christmas; come Dec. 25, no N2.  Come
late Feb, finally N2. They eventually sent back the order with the 'bad
credit
card #' error for a good credit card, all the while, sierra had told us they
never got it!!)
My 25 cents (i gave a lot)

Ah, the names  :)

Reading back MY first message I remember the incredible e***ment I
felt when discovering the HOF and LFRS  F1GP competitions, and all the
related utilities. Until I got online, I had always thought I was the
only one who lost half his life on that sim  :)  As a result I started
to lose 75% for the next 2 years LOL

I don't care about sims anymore today though  :(   Also interesting
that not that many people can post older messages than this!

When I play and drive by that light blue Honda CRX I wish I could jump
out of whatever "supercar" I'm in and drive the Honda.  At least in
that I'm familiar with the dashboard and turning capabilities.

But then again, I'd probably wind up with a CRX HF.  Bleeeech!  :)

This is one of a handful of posts I made regarding Hawaii, but I think it
still kinda is relevant today:

Subject: More fun on Hawaii
Newsgroups: rec.autos.simulators
Date: 1996/04/30

This is from late Sunday night/early Monday morning

A few of us IGNners hook up with some other racers and run a pleasant
drive at Michigan.  After that we took to more races at Martinsville,
then N.Wilkesboro, then Richmond,then Dover.

We nominated a new race after Dover, this time for Loudon.  We're
having a ball at these tracks that I for one have spent little or no
time on before.  We're waiting for people to finish up a race at
Talladega and perhaps they would join us at Loudon.

The race at Talley finished up, people start leaving, and apparently
someone from that race nominated another one for that group.

At Talladega.

How many times can ya run that one track?  I think (this is all in
good clean fun of course) that there are people out there who are
afraid to go to a track where they might have to apply brakes.

Its been fun.  I've tried to make positive contributions where
possible.  As evidence, my first post.  replying to a question from
St. Eldred about F1RC.
hey.  Where's that patch!!!
================================
eldred,

as a big fan of the game, let me summarize.

pro's
* fantastic graphics (better than f1 2001 imo)
* lots of addons freely available (www.f1-star.de)
* online racing community via relay (www.f1rcrelay.com)
* gorgeus track renditions in terms of inclines & slopes (better than
f1 2001 imo).
* excellent hotlapping with ghosts
* excellent wet / dry / mixed weather racing
* great Force Feedback.

con's
* AI numerous faults.  not avoiding enough during braking
* AI not avoiding accidents.
* AI pitting during wet / dry races are predictable
* Multiplayer sucks out of box. goto www.f1rcrelay.com for a better
system.
* No patch in sight.

i still love it to bits.

If you can pick it up somewhere for a low price, it might surprise
you.  i don't regret buying it for one minute.

Good grief.

I found this one using another search...

This one is 26 December 1994.  Glad to see I've been around a while.
I remember that internet account.  I used to pay for it per hour
surfed :)

As to the content.  I eventually bought a dual format stiffy with the
pc and amiga versions on it.  pc version had crappy ega graphics
similar to c64 version.  as an aside, the best way to play it on your
pc today is the atari st or amiga versions and an emulator.  the st
emulators are much easier to set up than the amiga ones for the
beginner, although i have a soft spot for the amiga one.

love this thread.  sorry for my erroneous previous 'first post'.  this
one definately is the real deal.  it was made using tin on a shell
unix account!!!
-------------------------------------
Hi.

I've been playing with F1GP, IndyCar and Nascar for a while now. I had
an
argument with someone about car games and the conversation turned to
Revs
and Stunt Car Racer.  For those who remember, Revs(BBC/Spectrum/C64)
and
SCR(AMIGA/C64/Speccy) were the first race games by Geoff Crammond(F1GP
1
and hopefully 2).

My question(finally) is: Has anybody seen or played SCR for the PC?  I
saw it in a bargain pile here(South Africa) dirt cheap.  Does it have
SB
Sound or VGA graphics, I can't tell by looking.  Is it a good
conversion
from the Amiga?  The original game was excellent.  It was the **ONLY**
game where the correct approach speed and angle of entry to a corner
was
critical to survival.

If the game is as good as the Amiga version, I'll buy it.  Anyway,
please
let me know what you guys think.

Cheers and Happy holidays.

Bad memories looking for my first posts. Way back in summer 1988. I was in a
discussion with somebody about why they should lift the gas when shifting
gears. I explained what happens to engines when you don't lift and how I'd
never do it in my Sierra Cosworth.

About 2 weeks later, said Cossie was written off trying to avoid a head on
collision with a police car on a blue light job. He was on the wrong side of
the road, overtaking on a blind bend  approaching a roundabout. The fact
that I was exiting the roundabout at low speed probably saved my life.

Sigh. I look at my Crappy Citroen AX and Lotus Europa currently in bits
undergoing restoration and summer seems a long way away :-(

I missed the first part of this thread, so my comment may be out of place.  I
*like* a good replay feature.  I can use it to try to learn where my mistakes
are.  The easier that is to do, the better.
