Yup, it's out in there, somewhere, unless you slapped an X-No-Archive: Yes
or whatever it is onto it.

My first post in RAS is from July 1996 as google remembers it,
and it appears to be  a bashing of GP2, as it should be ;-)

My first ever google recorded post is dated 7-May-1991 and was
to comp.sys.amiga. How time flies...

Sorry for following a followup, but the original has expired on me :-)

After a few weeks of research into setups, many people are lapping at
those fast times you're talking about rather than complaining about not
being able to achieve them.  Practice is required as well as research!

[garbage about cheating deleted]
Interesting enough, in it's own special way, the manual suggests
precisely these sorts of modifications.  What really needs to be done
is many laps practice and selecting the ideal line for you.
I can run 1:24s in practice at Monza now, and am still getting more
into advanced setups (Mad Catz wheel+pedals). The car was initially
a dog to control, but adjusting to find a balance and learning the ideal
turn in point, spot to graze the curb and the SMOOTH addition of
accelerator out of each corner makes me confident of reducing
that time some more.  It is the effort required in both setup
and driving a particular setup that makes the game so rewarding.

Why did you buy the game? Then again I hate the commando
missions in Command&Conquer :-)

I've read a lot of good things about the Microsoft FF steering wheel,
but has anyone here got any experience with the FF wheel from Actlab?
Does anyone know how these two compare? (By the way, I've heard that
the Actlab setup is quite large. How's that with the MS wheel?)

My first post was also a follow up - in this case someone was looking for
a demo of Driver...

The initial demos for the Playstation are receinving mixed reviews -
some people are finding it hellishly hard, while others just love it.

The demo is currently available in the UK on the Official Playstation
Magazine.

Such an innocent question, back on 2001-7-11 (wow, relative newbie). Little
did I know exactly where THAT one was going to lead...

-------

Hi, does anybody know where I can find **very detailed** information on car
physics such as suspension and lateral tyre grip? I am writing a simulation
and I don't want to 'rig' the physics like most racing games.

Cheers, Nick.

-------

The answers I got were:

1) "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics" from Amazon
- closely followed by Doug Milliken saying sae.org :-)

2) Book list on the old Racer site from Ruud

3) NASA

Strangely, NASA haven't got back to me yet, but the other two sources have
been great...

Uhhhh,
                     $19.99
                   -   12.99
                _________
$  7.00            right?     Maybe money math is
different over there? ;P

A local (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Can.) computer store ran an ad for
"World Circuit Grand Prix II" by Spectrum Holobyte.  At first I
thought the Spectrum Holobyte was a mistake by the store but the photo
of the box shows what looks to be a 94 Williams with Spectrum Holobyte
written underneath. Has anyone heard of this before or possibly used
it?  Is it the new F1GP sim by Microprose put out under a different
company  name?

My first RAS post is as recent as from June 2001... couple of months
after I re-discovered GPL... nothing of great interest, just trying to
help a fellow GPL'er.

To my own surprise my first usenet posts were made 14th of November
1994! The groups were rec.autos.misc (although it seems that I posted
an emtpy message ;) and ... dramatic pause ... rec.toys.lego =)

And Eep called me a newbie... oh well <shrug>

I have a V3 3000 also (with P3-600) and I was also getting similar
stuttering, but I saw this at the Legends Central GPL forum (can't
remeber
who wrote it, I just copy/pasted it to a text file...):

==================
These settings go into the GPL\core.ini file.

disable_modem = 1 ; Prevent GPL from looking for modem. Speeds up
startup
and prevents problems. Disable unless you want to play by direct
modem-to-modem.

disable_network = 1 ; Disable network support. If you will never run
GPL on
your local area network / home network this can be set to disabled.

disable_tcp_ip = 0 ; Disable TCP/IP support. To play over the internet
on
VROC servers using TCP/IP this should not be disabled.

disable_ipx = 1 ; Disable IPX protocol? Most people do not use the IPX
protocol any longer and use TCP/IP, you should set this to disabled.
==================

The disable_modem option is supposed to be the one causing some
stuttering,
and disabling it reduced the stuttering for me...

BTW, 0 = false and 1 = true...

Can't find it, Google doesn't return anything on me before Jun 97 and I
know I posted here well before that, probably late 95 or early 96

Thats strange because Nascar seems to run better(DOS PRMPT)than it
did under native dos.
Have you ran memmaker from DOS? I ran memmaker twice. 1. I booted
using F4(dual Boot)then ran memmaker pressing f4 as soon as win95
started on the reboots.  2. I ran memmaker from Dos Window. seems to
work fine now.
