Accelerating and Steering Wheel Controllers

I had a question about accelerating with the steering wheel controllers.
Is it possible to actually maintain a constant speed?  I am currently
using a joystick which for steering is fine but it's either foot to
the floor acceleration or none at all.  This makes it extremely
difficult to maintain position or close proximity to opponents.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how they stay right on someone's
tail in a lot of traffic in order to make the pass when an opening
appears?  I am always either running over the guy or too far away when
he slips up.

Thanks.

Yes.  Gas pedal feels like it should... at least with a T1.  Brakes are
variable too.

Practice!  Take the car out in practice, tuck in behind somebody and
shadow, shadow, shadow!  Bop til you drop.

hmmm, lot'sa practice, I guess!
try less cars, speed up the graphics some... dunno what to tell ya'...
turn up the competition level (opponent strength) some... if you're
running everybody down, raise it up...

IN a word, yes.

Practice.  I don't know what kind of stick you have but I can do it with
a Wingman Extreme.  I couldn't do it either until I'd spent a lot of time
behind the wheel/stick (I use a wheel now).

Another suggestion.  Are you using the buttons on your joystick to
accelerate and brake?  If so, get something like the FlightMax from Suncom.  It
has two sliders on the base that are wired as the x- and y-axes of the second
joystick.  This will provide you with analog control of the accelerator.  Using
the buttons is like always driving with your foot either off the gas, or with
the gas to the floor.  Not very realistic, is it?

The joystick does offer variable acceleration and braking if you
use "up" and "down" rather than buttons (leaving them for shifting).
My only problem is Reverse. Its hard steering and reversing without
accelerating or braking to contradict the reversing. But then again
you shouldn't be using the reverse gear often.

Abe.

I have the ACP, Auto Racing***pit.  The foot pedals have the variable
pots so if you want to maintain 20 mph you can do so.  The braking is the
same.  Would even try to run with out them.

I'd hope that once I get a wheel (trying to decide between T1 and ACP) that
the petals will be potted.  When I push on the petal lightly, the car
gas/brake is applied lightly.  If this is not the case... someone please let
me know!
