ICR: What do I look for in adjusting shocks?

by George Abao /ADVISOR Russe » Thu, 09 Jun 1994 01:07:28

I've been playing ICR for a little while now, but I still haven't
determined what the advantages and disadvantages of adjusting the
shocks are.  In the manual, it says that the shock adjustments will
affect chassis roll and steering control, but I never seem to notice
these changes when I do shock adjustments.  In the latest GameBytes
article about ICR, written by Greg Cisko(?), he said shocks should
be adjusted to increase/decrease tire temps, but I tried making
radical shock adjustments and found little change in the tire
temperatures.  So, what do you ICR vets look for when performing
shock adjustments?

(STUFF DELETED)

Shocks? This is one of the hardest things to define with respect to one
aspect of how a car handles.  Different shock settings will change tire
temps.  But more importantly I think that the shocks should be adjusted
around the same time you pick a set of tires and set your wings.  The
shocks should be set so that you have good grip in the corner which you
are driving the slowest.  This should not be a heavy understeer but a
slight oversteer is what I prefer.  Once you have that check the tweak or
balance of the car to ensure that you are about level on roadcourses.  On
an oval there may be some differences from right to left and front to
rear.  Then go practice and see where the car still understeers and
    oversteers in those slow corners.
Now that that is said you should not forget that This is only the way
try to do it all and my way of going about this.
