Ultraracer buttons NFG on A3D gameport?

Why is the buttons are not working properly when I have the Ultraracer
wheel plugged into the Vortex Gameport on my Vortex 8820 A3D sound
card?  Buttons 1 and 2 lock on autofire!?  The wheel works fine when I
try on other computers.  Is it the wheel, the soundcard, or Win 98
that is to blame?

Well it's not win98. I have an Ultraracer and win98, no problems.
I have a SB16 soundcard.
