GP2 vs A3D

After reading some posts and not being able to find mgprs2 yet I decided
to dust off my GP2 CD and see if it would run on my new fire-breather.
It runs, but I can't it to talk to my Turtle Beach Montego A3D card.  It
correctly autodetects the values that match the Sound Blaster settings
(A220 I5 D3).  But the sound test produces an annoying stuttering sound
instead of the car zoom sound.  Does anyone have any ideas?

BTW, I was a little disappointed to see 100+% occupancy during the start
at Monza.  And that was without sound.  I would have thought a P2/400
w/Riva TNT would be enough machine for this sim.  Wonder what Monaco is
going to look like.

Try using auto detect and just save the settings. I had the same problem
with an A3D card. The sound works OK in the game (Just not in setup).

I have a Turtle Beach Montego (Dell OEM version) PCI A3D card.  I got
the horrible sound in the setup too.  I also got a warning about not
having configured the Open Files and/or Buffers variables correctly in
config.sys/autoexec.bat.  In the game, I get some distortion in the
sound, but nothing as bad as the setup screen.  I didn't try to
troubleshoot this, as GPL came out shortly thereafter.

What are the recommended settings for these variables and could this be
the cause of the sound problems?

If you put this in your config.sys it should be fine":

FILES=40
BUFFERS=30

Yeah Well GP2 needs about a P2-650 to run at full speed...:(
Your videocard doesn't influence the performance though. GP2 uses only
your processor for screenbuildup. So even a fast 2d card won't make a
difference.

But hey... maybe Gp3 :)

Yes, but a slow video card can make a difference.  I was just wondering
whether the TNT was closer to Trident or a Millennium.
