Is there a simple way of editing the position of the ideal racing line
(groove) in GPL? Is it in any way connected to the race.lp?

At some tracks I find the groove a bit off and it misleads me with my
racing line so I was wondering, how much effort would it take to fix some
segments at some tracks.

Cheers,
Janez

Turn it off altogether: makes for improvement in frame-rate and also (until
you learn the line by heart) an interesting race!

I don't think that turning it off is the answer.I find that you are
right about the line, but i'm still trying to get to 36 fps with my
voodoo3 3000 AGP graphics card. So I might think differently when my
equipment is finally running correctly. If I find anything, I'll let ya
know. Good Luck on the race track.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggghhh!!!  Don't talk to me about
grooves ;-)

Well, okay:

The 'groove' is just a set of polygons, a few per section - raised ever
so slightly above the track itself.  They are probably based on race.lp,
but race.lp does not control their positions.

You *can* edit their positions (best bet is GPLTrackEditor-
http://gpl.gamestats.com/forum/ - which is quite likely to crash :().
But why bother?  Surely you can drive with the groove as a 'guide' -
e.g. hang left of the groove through braking, then cut across it to hit
the apex and slide out back across it on the exit?  The groove is
representative of the 'ideal' race line, not hot lapping.  (If you're
racing and not qualifying, then I eat my words !-)

Cheers,
Phil

Might be best to simply ignore the racing groove as far as "line" goes
- sometime's it's way off where it should be IMHO.  However, I wouldn't
shift it because it is useful for telling you where to brake - it's much
more reliable to have something actually on the road as a brake marker
than to try to line up with something trackside.

A lot more effort than just learning to not let the groove throw you off.

Look at it this way, in a real race, on a real racetrack, the groove is just
as given, with no "editing" possible, BUT, it serves as a fixed reference
point for positioning your car on YOUR line.

Learn not to think of the groove *as* the line, but as a reference for
positioning your car on your prefered line, much as you use references  for
breaking and turn in points.
