DIR.X 7.0...GENERAL WARNING

Installed DX7 after a reformat and had nothing but video slowdowns and
sound problems.
MS says the only way to remove DX7 is to REFORMAT!!!
Used DirectX Buster instead and reinstalled DX6.1 now everything is OK
again.

Had no problems with N3 or anything before and now all of a sudden
after installing 7.0 last night, now I can hardly even drive the car.
Change the joystick driver to Papyrus and it goes away. DX7 did me
wrong hehe. Where do I get, and what is DirectX Buster?

Thanks,
Gene

DIR.X 7.0...GENERAL WARNING

I have DX7 with a PIII.  I also have an old THrustmast T2, plus a
newer Logitech USB Formula Force wheel.  Plus two different joysticks,
one Microsoft, and one thrustmaster with a very old throttle .  all
work, and calibrate just fine.  Methinks a certain manufacturer is
having troubles getting it's drivers up to***and is laying the blame
on DX7.
I've said this many times, and will keep on saying it.  I don't know
why, but some folks ALWAYS have trouble with DX updates while others
install and play flawlessly.  Without ANY sort of info to back this up,
I'd guess...guess mind you...that those users who have pushed their
systems to the limit are the ones having troubles while those who have
kept thier units releatively stock, may be the ones who don't have any
problems with a dx update.  Once again.  That's only a guess on my part.
The basic rule tho for problems with dxupdates. is to make sure your
video and sound card drivers are up to date and be prepared to
re-install software.  Usually deleteing and cleaning out the registry
then re=installing will fix "most" dx problems.  Although I'm sure here
also, there are users who will be out of luck.  I don't know, maybe
motherboard bios settings, or any number of little things could
contribute to the dx problems.  But the fact remains, many, many, many
users, with similar configs that guys have, run dx7 perfectly.
dave henrie

speaking of configs.  perhaps dig into your config.sys and
autoexec.bat and make sure emm386 isn't loading.  Like I said, tons of
things could be causing the problems.  Just like many users stated when
they got DX6.1(now why does it work now when it was so porked last
year?)

You know, claiming that you have to reformat to get rid of DirectX is contempt on
Microsofts behalf towards their customers.

That kind of ***just adds to the pool of good reasons why you should stay away
from MS.

How stupid do they think we are?

Had exactly the same experience here (12MB Voodoo2 3d card, P2 300,
128MB RAM).

I, like a lot of others, got caught by S.O.S.'s "automatic" install of DX7.
In my case the game controller applet stopped working, with a message
"support files not found". Reinstalled DX7 over the top and installed latest
Wingman software (3.30). -  same problem. I copied an old joy.cpl over the
top and the game controllers applet worked again, but wouldn't allow you to
view the properties of any controller. Thanks to this NG I was able to find
the "DXbuster" software and will attack it tonight .
                                    Cheers...

No, it's just an admission of how f***ed up their version control is...

Well, we gamers have no choice... ;^(

That warning comes from the Thrustmaster website - I thought my Force GT
wheel was broken, but then stood corrected that it were Dx7 problems.
