Can we have an "official" word from Papyrus on DX 7.0  ???

Affect on N3 and GPL (who cares about anything else???...just kidding).

Now that the official Microsoft (retail) release has been made....this is not an
install that's easily "undone!"

Thanks in advance.....

Tom

Hi Ed,

I guess the question is do you see any differences?

So far, I have only ran N3 since my DX7 install, but the 3D sound in N3
seems alot smoother.  I mean the transitions from, say, a car on my L/R
moving to my R/R is more fluid.  Before, I could hear it move from side to
center to other side, now the sound seems to just "slide across".  Cool.
Some day, I'll try other games again...

So far I've tried GPL, N3, MGPRS2, TOCA2, CMR, SCGT and Viper Racing. The
most noticible things to me were that SCGT doesn't seem to stutter when
leaving the pits any longer and there doesn't seem to be the same Microsoft
5% dead zone in the controller.

I had to change over from my Dx driver to the Papy generic driver in
N3 because no matter how I calibrated, I was 3 mph slower at Dega with
the Dx driver but back up to the previous speed with the generic.   I
have no idea why...

I could not calibrate at all using papys drivers.
For those who need to remove ( or think they do :) ) DX7 check this
url.  http://www.heise.de/ct/ftp/99/03/204/english.shtml
They have a utility to remove it.

The flight-sim newsgroup has several posts stating that they increased
their framerates in EAW by about 10-15%.

Craig,

Thanks a million for your timely post.  I installed DX 7.0 and immediately
had all kinds of trouble with Win recognizing my wheel.  Couldn't get any
sim using DirectX joystick driver to work.

I had tried just re-installing DX 6.1, but that didn't work.  Soon as I ran
the removal program your URL points to, and then re-installed DX 6.1 all is
well again.

Thanks again,  Bob

Just Some Fyi; {probably only important to me though...eh?}
I wasn't as fortunate as you Bob & Craig to get the utility before I
installed DX7.0 & found out that it would do a major' video mess
with many of my sims & games! 'i.e. Sbk, MotoRacer2, NFS3 &
more! Even MS's Midtown Madness had the same problem! Gpl
& Quake2 ran great though!! Weird??
All was well with DX6.1 but I assumed if it is from "MS" it had to
be ok...Wrong!! What a mess I went through; Checking all video
options, in & out of control panel to change this & that etc!
I finally used my tape-back-up.. While in Windows 98 I deleted
everything in Windows98, System, System32 and Systembak. I
then restored it back to these directories! I am really glad I have
a tape-back-up! But I still have no idea why Windows 98 didnt
crash when I deleted all these directories & kept running? Odd?
Anyway I have DXback utility now!! Next time {if there will be
a next time!} I'll use it!! Thanx Craig for posting the url!!
Cheers Thom_j.

DX7 is OK for both. However, I realized that GPL does not have
antialiasing while N3 does. Is this going to be addressed?
