GPL and ATI Video Driver Question

by bhoeni » Tue, 01 Jun 2004 07:16:14

Hey Guys,

I just updated my videocard driver because the version I was using
didn't work properly with TOCA Race Driver 2.  Now that I have that
problem sorted out, I find that the updated driver leaves something to
be desired in GPL.  (I get a bit of "shimmering" and the object edges
don't seem as smooth as they once were).

I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro running under WinXPPro.  The CPU is an
AthlonXP 2100.  My original driver was Catalyst 3.7 (the one that didn't
work properly with TOCA).  My present driver is Catalyst 4.1.

I know that there are a slew of other driver versions out there.  So,
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone using an ATI card with GPL regarding
which driver they are using and what the AA and AF settings are.  Every
other sim looks good, but GPL needs some improvement.

Thanks!

Bert

GPL and ATI Video Driver Question

Bert

I seem to remember there was a problem with an early 4 version of the
driver.

GPL lost its anti-alias display in some circumstances and the edges were not
smooth.

This was cured in later drivers and 4.5 seems to work OK.

MY SYSTEM

Pentium IV 2.5

Radeon 9700 (Catalyst 4.5 driver)

Windows XP Home

Direct3D SETTINGS

Anti-aliasing              4x

Anisotropic Filtering  16x

Texture Preference  -  High Quality

Mipmap Detail Level - High Quality

Wait for vertical sync - Application Preference

Truform - Always off

(I'm not sure whether the last two are the correct setting for GPL)

GPL SETTINGS

1024*768

All graphics details on

Detail level 74%

Thanks, Richard.  I'll give the 4.5's a try.

GPL and ATI Video Driver Question

Well, the 4.5's work fine in GPL -- much improved over the 4.1's.
Unfortunately, the 4.5's are just as bad as the 3.7's were in TOCA Race Driver
-- the Formula fords aren't fully formed graphically.

There's gotta be an ATI driver somewhere that works fine with both GPL and TOCA,
doesn't there?
