GPL and Geforce2. Which video drivers?

I'm happy at the moment with the way GPL runs with the nvidia 6.50
drivers on my geforce GTS2 32Mb card.

BUT, I having big probs with Half Life. It's been suggested I upgrade to
the 12.41 drivers but I'm worried it will (adversly) affect GPL.

Any views?

I found GPL a little slower with 12.41, so I'm back with 6.50.  I guess
you'll have to try it to see for sure.

Also, the 12.41 drivers weren't booting up with the monitor in the optimal
refresh rate, so they're no good for me.

12.41 drivers work fine for me except when I come off the track the menu
occasionally flashes (flickers). Pressing any key which brings up a GPL
dialog box (like "save replay" or "leave track", etc.) clears up the
flashing. I've been told this is just the fact of life with the D3D patch
and newer drivers, and it's really no big deal.

FSAA works fine with my GF2 GTS 32.  I just read that the 12.90 drivers fix
the menu flicker problem

Just to be different, I'm running the 10.80 drivers, with 4xFSAA on at
1280x1024.  The 12.41s gave me major performance problems, but these seem to
work fine.  Machine is a T-Bird 1.1, 512mb, GF2GTS-64.

Then maybe it was your monitor profile file? I never had that problem
with 12.41.

GPL and Geforce2. Which video drivers?

by Simon Brow » Mon, 25 Jun 2001 08:30:59

If it was the monitor drivers, I'm guessing I would get the same problem
with 6.50 as well.  The video card knows what refresh rate my monitor
*should* be in, because when I switch to a lower res (say 1024*768) and then
back to 1600*1200 the refresh rate is correct.  Just for some reason it's
always wrong on boot-up, no matter what res I'm using.

Basically it's like the nVidia drivers are over-riding the settings and
booting in 60 Hz.  I get the same thing with 12.20, 12.40, 12.41, 12.60 and
12.90.  Also the 10.xx drivers I tried also did this.  7.xx drivers were ok,
but were slower with GPL than the 6.50 drivers.  In GPL alone, the 6.50 are
the quickest drivers i've found.

I really wish I could get this fixed if anyone has any suggestions?
