Lurch documented (Patch)

I debated posting a replay Zip of the lurch effect taking place at
Pocono, but decided not to establish a precedent of breaking Net
protocol, and letting loose a flood of replay binaries on this group.
Instead I will e-mail this file to anyone who requests it.
Is there any particular address for Papyrus that I should send it to?
The particulars:
IBM Aptiva M51
100 mhz Pentium
32 meg Ram (2-16 meg sims)
Screamin 3D w/ latest bios update installed
GP1 wheel running through older (not sure of specifics) CH gamecard
Using "renddma -4" to launch game
This replay was recorded running in Win95, but the performance and the
effect are virtually identical when running in DOS.
The effect is most noticeable from the in-car view. It is not as obvious
on the replay as it is while racing (when the car almost seems to jump a
few feet), but the car can be seen to swerve noticeably.
E-mail me if you would like a copy.

Thanks for finally showing that someone with a very fast machine and
with 32 megs of RAM is experiencing the same problems as I am.  I have
a 75mhz machine with 16 megs of RAM and have never had problems with
any Papyrus products, even with all graphics turned on.  I also
recorded a replay of a sudden lurch to the right and can also e-mail
it to anyone who requests it.

Don't bother with Papyrus I sent my findings to SIERRA .Post on their
message board and to their e-mail . that's www.sierra.com They might
have more leverage with papy and push for a fix. I would not send
anything to papy after they did not even check this patch after it was
done. This is obvious because they did not see the reverse race dates.
My feeling is they contracted this patch out and passed it along when
they got it, without ANY playtesting. This lurching is happening to a
lot of users and not everybody reports this
Lets let Sierra know and maybe they can get rid of the idiots at
Papy that had a hand in this.

Thanks for the feedback. The dude you replied to is a little
off-the-knob
and I am glad to hear a reply.

Please keep up the dialogue.  I'm not suggesting posting the projected
release dates of the next patch -- but keep us posted with what you see
as the
next things to deal with.

You _know_ we'll let you know if your heading in the right direction.

Let me get this straight: You want Sierra to decide who works at
Papyrus? who get's hired and fired? You want Sierra to fire the people
who designed N2? And N1, ICR, and Indianapolois 500?
Fortunately, I don't believe Sierra has that kind of authority over
Papyrus' internal operations, and I definitely don't agree with your
assumptions.

I did a pretty good chunk of the engineering for the patch.  We also did
fairly extensive testing at Papyrus, but unfortunately we didn't catch
everything; sorry about that.  All of the work was done "in house", at
Papyrus.

Info will make its way back to Papyrus if you send it to Sierra; however,
Papyrus makes decisions about what to work on, and the info needs to get to
Papyrus in order to make a decision.    On the joystick problems; we've got
a pretty good snapshot of things now, I think, though we will still need to
locate machines which duplicate the problems we've heard of.

Here are the joystick problems I've heard about:

 - Jerking to the right, with any CPU (worse with modem or Kali connection
active).

 - Cyrix or other non-Pentium CPU, pedals going to opposite end of
callibration scale when you press pedals to full range.

If anyone has seen any other joystick problem, please send me email
describing it.  Thanks.

Are you not the same Raaven who has posted to this group ***ing
about Sierra in the past?  Hope that fence post you are on doesnt
leave a mark.

As for the patch.... Great job!!!!!  After all the ***ing going on
here, we got the one thing we all wanted ...The save game feature...
The fixes for the AI  pitting problems etc.... Keep up the good job,
cant wait for the next UPGRADE!
