When does the last patch come out? Every week I must download the
newest Beta patch to be up to date. I don't know the differences and
can't see any advance, but I guess I must have them to be compatible
to other multi-players.

From what I've heard (I've yet to install one yet) the changes are
pretty much "under the hood."  Some of the changes are pretty dramatic, but
mostly related to transmission packets and such - not graphics or rules.

Uh....that kind of goes hand in hand with "BETA" testing.
The original CD install still works just fine and there are races available
with it.
The other alternative is for them to have kept beta testing to themselves
and then we all get stuck with the highly flawed CD version up until a point
they would decide to release a patch to the public.

I applaud them for allowing the patch testing to go public. One of the few
really good things they have done lately.

They have changed a ton of things, but you are right, especially the
last few patches, things are seemingly very minor.  They also have
upgraded the engine smoke when a car is about to blow...(very helpful
when drafting at Day..er I mean Talladega.  And the sparks when you've
trashed a wheel are new and "improved."
Some of the changes are listed in the readme, the faq or on the Sierra
Beta message board.  The last jump from 1202 to 1204 included only new
code to fix a server hosting problem.

Remember if you participate in the patches you are participating in the beta
program to develop the patch. Once it is final, it will be released to all
and when you sign on for mulitplayer it will prompt you to update to the
patch. All the patches you speak of are a work in progress, except rather
than going on strictly behind the scenes with in house testers, Papyrus
opened it up to a lot of people to get as much feedback as they could.
Sounds like they want this patch to be right.
Folks who purchased N3 and did not patch it, still can race on Won, just not
with the same folks that are participating in the patch testing.
