Vroc Down?

by Jeff Haa » Sat, 20 Dec 2003 23:36:10

Hi All,

After having my Hyper***pit and my attention to this msgboard  in
storage for the last 7 months (new house) I attempted to connect to
Vroc using winvroc 2.1.  Couldn't get any listings.  I downloaded the
new ini file with the address in it beforehand. Upon checking the
address itself http://www.racesimcentral.net/

I got the message: (The account alisonnic is unpaid).  Does this mean
that there is now a fee to see the race list?  I don't mind at all but
there are no instructions on vroc help site that indicate this.  I'm
going thru a router and have forwarded 6969-6971 udp as well as the
32766 to 32786 series .
I see the BBS but not the race list.... I've searched the google
archives but came up empty.
thx,

Jeff

Hey Jeff

Change your vroc.ini  file to;

[VROC]
Address=racelist.vroc.net

This should solve your problem and give you a race list.

Cheers

Your vroc.ini should have the line:
        Address=racelist.vroc.net

For some reason (terminal anal-retentiveness?), I have all the old
values saved in this file, but commented out. There have been a
number of address changes over the years.

I did have, Address=racelist.vroc.net  but it got changed just recently to
Address=209.242.93.251
I think both work anyway.

Vroc Down?

I had this same problem after being away for a while - I asked about
it on the VROC  BBS and some kind soul linked me to a downloader patch
(sorry can't remember link or program name).  But it worked straight
away so i now get racelists. I suggest you ask there if no luck here.

Only problem is I have recently fitted a USB broadband modem and can't
get GPL to talk through it so when I launch to join a race GPL freezes
at start screen.

Unfortunatly no-one on VROC BBS has been able to help me with this
one.... so if anyone can help..........

cheers

Roger

Try running gpl in software mode & join a race on vroc. This should allow
any warning message or dialogue box to show itself if this is the problem.

One common problem is with zonealarm bringing up a friendly 'do you want
gpl.exe to access the internet?' message that can't be seen behind the
hardware accelerated gpl menu screen. Your Modem may be throwing up a
similar message.

Alternatively if you can run gpl in a window (there's an option for this
in the core.ini) you can try to connect manually to a server without using
vroc. This will allow you to see the desktop while gpl is running to help
find the problem. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to join a
race via vroc /and/ run gpl in a window.

Under the [communication] section of your core.ini add this line(if it's not
already there)
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1                    ; Find IP addresses another way
Hope this helps.

Thanks Daryl, that was the trick. That's what I get for following the
directions of vroc.net.  Boy am I rusty on the track...
