I apologize for posting off-topic, however, it does relate to cars. This is
an amazing police chase! Make sure that your sound is on when you go to this

I have to wonder about employing such a risky technique in traffic
(purposely spinning the car ?),   On the first spin, the car very nearly hit
an oncoming car in the other lane.  That would have been ugly!

He probably had a taillight out or something.  The cops think it's nothing
to risk killing innocent civilians if a "suspect" doesn't immediately start
bowing and scraping and***ing their boots.

Thats one of the most ridiculous statements I've seen.   So, lets use the
tallight argument.  Why'd he run then ?

Most wanted felons are caught exactly that way; light out, not using a
turn signal, etc.

It was actually a reported Stollen car. That is why the Cops were trying to
pull him over

Yep.  I always get a kick out of so many times on the net, someone posts a
clip of incident x, and everyone jumps to criticizing, without having been
there, knowing the full story, etc.

From an *edited* (usually for effect) tv clip, everyones an expert on how
things should have been handled, on whatever the clips subject is.

Well,  I AM an expert...cuz I SAY so.  You run, you should have a
harpoon fired up your tailpipe.  Quit this chase ninny stuff...just get
behind, lockon and rip the guy a new....cavity.

Now you're thinking logically Dave... this localize the damage to the
felon's car, and not the oncoming traffic! :-)

Darf,

I'm not saying the police weren't justified in trying to stop the guy; I
just thought the method used was a bit risky.  He was a danger to all the
traffic on the road at that rate of speed and he had to be stopped.  I still
wonder if there isn't a better way than spinning the car out and risk having
it go head-on into the other lane.  Now if the police had been able to block
the oncoming traffic well ahead of the car before tapping him.... yeah, I'd
say it was kosher.

It's easy to armchair this incident now.   In defense of the police, they
didn't have the luxury of plotting and moving resources in the time they
had, most likely.  I wonder if it might not be best to just back off in a
situation like this, and let the driver sense that he's no longer being
pursued.  At least he might slow down.  Heck, they had him tracked by
helicopter.  It's not like he could have gone on forever, they could have
grabbed him when the gas tank emptied.

That's right. It's more important that the cops get back a hunk of rolling
steel. If some innocent people (especially children---they haven't been
around very long, so they are of little value) get mangled or killed, so
what? That steel is definitely worth a few body bags.

The cops get off on those completely unnecessary chases.

Considering there was a helicopter following the whole thing, what was the
point?  You're certainly not going to outrun a helicopter.
