GTR 2002 questions

Hi folks,

first of all let me say a big thank you for this awesome mod.
Great stuff! I have a question concerning the auto clutch (I
guess). I have it set to on, and sometimes the car just bogs
down in 2nd gear (tried this driving the Ferraris using Doug's
setups) and will come to a complete stop unless I downshift
into first and really rev it up. Also in these situations there
is smoke to be seen in the rear mirror. After a while
everything is back to normal and the car accelerates normally.

Can someone tell me what might be causing this?

Another observation: The sim stutters heavily in wet weather
(probably due to spray or something). I am not talking of low
frame rates, but definitive jumps in the display, very
annoying. System specs: Athlon XP 1800+, Win98SE, GF2MX400.

Again, great stuff otherwise. The sound is incredible! Great
work, guys.

Cheers & thanks in advance,

Uwe

as far as bogging down...check your lcd display and change it to picture
of the car.  Is the driveline icon flashing yellow when it bogs down?  You
could be dragging your chassis.   Otherwise..what 'race driver' lets his
engine bog down?  Floor it man!  :)

I upgraded my Athlon XP 1800 from a GF2MX400 to a GF4Ti and the difference
was night and day in F1200X.  It didn't really make much difference in
N2002, GP4, GPL etc.  I'm not talking in 1600x1200 or anything - even in
640x480 this game is crippled by a GF2 - especially the MX.  The rain and
smoke/dust effects impact performance quite a bit on most systems.

Thanks for your reply, Dave. No, it's not flashing, it feels
like the car isn't accepting throttle. I drove at Melbourne and
it usually happens exiting Whiteford and entering the fast
right hand sweeper. It feels really strange, and as Doug noted
in his great physics pdf it might have to do something with me
not blipping the throttle during shifts or whatever, I really
have no idea.

Have you tried the mod yet? Floor it and your tyres go up in
smoke ;-)

As for the spray / frame rate issue, I don't experience these
stutters driving the vanilla f 2002 in the wet, so it must be
mod related even if my GF2MX (admittedly) sucks. There's a GF4
on the way after Xmas, but that is still some time off ;-)

Best & thanks everyone for your suggestions,

uwe

Ok, I got it! It's that old TSW issue[1] again. In the
calibration screen, I can see the brake axis (RZ) flash up to
the middle and back again erraneously. If I tap the brake
pedal, all is fine again.

Strangely this does not happen in f1 2002 on the same setup, so
I just copied all the "Axis" lines from my f1 2002 player over
to the player in gtr 2002, and now all works fine in GTR2002???

I remember having the same problem with the Alfa mod when I
tried it. If anyone suffers from this problem using a TSW in
split axis mode, please let me know and I'll send you the
relevant part of my .PLR file.

Yes, I tried posting this on the simmod forums, but the site
won't let me log in for some reason.

Cheers,

uwe

[1] Actually, this bug is due to the directinput routines being
a bit braindead regarding axis detectionn, as one would expect
from an MS product ;-) papy products in generic mode work great
with the TSW.
