I have a P90 and am thinking about, in the near future, getting a
150mhz OD processor for it. Anyone here used one of the new Pentium OD's
yet? If so, what improvements in game play quality were noticed (if any)
on SVGA games (NFS, NASCAR Racing, WC, ICR2, etc.). Thanks ahead of
time...

Nick,

I'm thinking about the same thing.  The OD for the P75/90's are not due
out till May.  (I think)  While the 60/66's have been out for a month or
so now.  Last price I saw was $499, which is sorta steep for an OD chip.
(IMO)  We might be better off getting a new MB, with a 166 on it.
Suggestions anyone?

FWIW, I have a P60  w/ 16mg RAM which I just upgraded with the P120
Overdrive chip last weekend.  Been very happy with the results and am now
able to run with almost all graphics in SVGA mode.  Suggested price for
the 120/133 OD chip is $399.00.

The PODP 125 for the P/75 is out now. Best price I've seen is from Gateway 2000
for $370. I'm ordering mine Monday!!!

I don't think so.... The OD for a 75 supposedly takes it to 120 mhz, for
$400, but in reality, the tests showed only a 10% speed improvement. seesm
like a waste of money to mew, you can probably get a 120 motherboard for
that price or barely more. Check out last months Pc magazine, or Pc
world....

Yes that would be a good choice, go for the gold the price is still
$800. for MB and CPU! Or you can buy  the Pro series 200 if you save
your pennies there $$$$$ in the price range. I see it like this you
buy a machine and in a few years your already out dated, go for the
top computer that way you'll be ahead of the others and you'll be
happy.

Tony

You could have bought a 120 MB & CPU for $350.00 and that will play
all the graphics and a full field  in SVGA. Always a true Pentium is
always going to beat an overdrive processor!  Speaking from experience
I've been there done it!!

Check out this months Computer Shopper the 120 MB with Intel CPU for
$350 and in some places less than that!!! The prices are dropping due
to the fact that Cyrix came out with there new chip! Another month the
prices will fall again.

    There's also another cost factor... memory. I have a P90 with 32mb
of RAM. Until the day comes when I need a new machine, I don't want to
have to replace the motherboard with a P6 and go through the additional
cost of replacing the memory. That is one of the biggest reasons why the
Pentium upgrade will suit me better. Anyone have any idea how much 32mb
of RAM costs to replace?

Right now, Memory is going for about $10 a meg and still dropping.  I just
upgraded from 16 to 32 megs for about $160.  So if you bought it today,
you're looking at $320 to replace the 32 megs.

More on the Pentium overdrive chips. I just installed the pentium 125
overdrive chip for my P75. Now I'm running a P125 with 16mg ram and a
2mg video card. I run all the time now in SVGA with everything on except
for grass and asphalt and it's very smooth.
