DO NOT EDIT THE drivers.txt FILE!
Only edit the drivers2.txt file. I just copied this URL. It will take you
directly to Papyrus' own version of how to edit the DRIVER2.TXT file.

NASCAR: DRIVERS2.TXT SETUP?

by Chris Bitn » Tue, 30 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I want to change the statistics of my game so that every driver is more
agressive, has a better chance at starting in front and a better
driving time.  What do I need to change below, and in what way: + or -
to make them follow what I want?
Or at least, a similiar facsimilie?

Now, to clarify, do I make the changes in the drivers.txt. or the
drivers2.txt or both?

NUMT  2
TIRES Goodyear Hoosier

****The sets of 3 digits work in pairs - a low end of the range and a high
end of the range.  The first set is power (375 - 500).  The 2nd set is
traction (375-500) the 3rd set is drag (125-250) and the 4th set is
aggression (375-500).  I think NASCAR Racing picks a number somewhere
between the low and high numbers.  That gives some randomness to each
driver's performance.

If you want to increase performance, set the low and high range numbers
higher for power and traction and lower for drag.  If you want to really
randomize performance (ie. you want to immitate John Andretti) you set a
low number for the low end and a high number for the high end.  You can
adjust agression this was also.

By the way, the DRIVERS.TXT file also tells you what these numbers are.

You might also want to try the utility found at
http://www.teleport.com/~mcarver.  It's a drivers2.txt randomizer that
allows you set changes for the power traction and drag settings to be
altered by a % up or down that you determine.  It also allows you to
increase the aggression of any driver from the current range of 001 - 999
to X - 999.  If you set X to 800, the ranges will be narrowed to 800 - 999
or somewhere in between based on an average.  I use it at Talladega.  It
works off of a copy of the drivers2.txt file that you create so that you
always start fresh with the original settings.

Sounds like you're new.  Check out THE Pits web site, it'll teach you a
lot in a hurry.  I don't have the URL handy, just do a search on NASCAR
and THE PITS.

Later,

Brad

Whatever you do edit the drivers2.txt and leave the drivers.txt alone.
drivers.txt contains the original settings so you can go back to them.
