LWFF pots and other stuff

I don't suppose I'll make any friends at Act Labs for mentioning this, but
their current steering pots are a drop in fit for the LWFF and have the same
value (within the normal 10% range). You can't get replacement parts from
Logitech, so if you're looking for a new pot you might try calling Act Labs
and beg them to sell you one. Jens, I told you I'd check it out. Good call.

Here's the 'other stuff'. I received a slightly broken LWFF from Erich. It's
the China model, and mine is the Taiwan model, so mine is older.
But......(here it is), if part numbers and revisions are in a logical order,
the printed circuit board in the new wheel is older. The metal frame is not
brass colored anymore and is a thinner gauge, but they did add a set***
to expand the white, nylon front steering collar to help hold it in place. A
few weeks ago in response to the fact that there seems to be a real quality
control issue with the China made wheels, I said that they were probably
making the wheels using parts that didn't pass QC before (or shelf parts),
awaiting the release of their new wheel but not wanting to lose sales in the
interim. Now this looks even more likely. BTW, this is common for
manufacturers. My Ferrari wheel is an example of this. It's a hybrid between
the older style and the newer one. It has the stiffer paddles (not the new
ones, though) that replaced the old 'soft feel' ones, but has the single
clamp system. According to Guillemot they used their remaining stock of
clamps before installing the new ones. Not quite the same thing as using
failed parts, I know, but along the same line.

LWFF pots and other stuff

Gary, thx for the input. This lets me hope.
I suspected something like this, since I found out that my ***y old CH-sticks
have the same pots as the LWFF.
So the joystick-manufacturers have the same source for their pots, which is not
a public one.

Raymond, I'm quite sure you read this. Is there any chance to buy the pots from
your company? I'm very sure next time people choose a product, they remember the
excellent support and service of particular manufacturers.

Thanks again Gary,
TIA Raymond

Jens

LWFF pots and other stuff

by Mike » Fri, 21 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Jens-
I have managed to track down the original supplier of the pots used
in the LWFF wheel and pedals and could place an order for them through
the UK branch of the company......just one small problem! I have to
order the minimum quantity of 1000 pots and they will make to order in
the factory in China which makes the LW pots too. The price into the UK
was something like 1:75 each after taxes, so all we need is 250 guys to
pre order 4 each and send the cash to me and either i go for a nice long
holiday<BG> (not a good idea) or we all wait 5 weeks for the order to
arrive here from China.

Dont go much on that idea either, they after all are still cheap pots. I
am looking at the possibility of modifying the mounting part of the LW
wheel to take the Spectrol pots.....(much better idea) that I use in my
very soon to be formally anounced pedal set that uses the original LW
wiring or the gameport.

Early reports from users of both types are very favourable.

Cheers.

Mike,
post in the LWFF-forum, probably we find 250 interested guys amongst the 8
signed-up members <vbg>

What I want to try next is to open the pot and replace the inner (worn) parts by
new ones from another (different shape) pot. Of course I only perform this
surgery when my pot is due.
