Take a stand and tell those at Papyrus that we
want network for Indycar 2.
Mail them or continue this thread.

Fact:
When Papyrus first announced about the upcoming ICR2
they said it would have it, but later they removed
that statement from the specs.
And now they say ICR2 won't get Hawaii at all.

I'd love to have network play capability for ICR2 but I'm not too interested
in calling long distance to do it.  I have several friends locally who also
enjoy ICR2 and we would like to race against one another.  If only, if only.

I'd much prefer to have local LAN compatibility, preferably under IPX,
but Hawaii for ICR2 would be brilliant. However, I get the impression
that NASCAR is a much more popular sim than ICR2 (in terms of units
shifted) and perhaps Papy have surveyed the demand and found it couldn't
support a Hawaii type service?

Anyway, I didn't hear that they said "No Hawaii for ICR2" and they are
also busy with NASCAR Hawaii yet. Lets wait and see what they come up
with at E3...

Well, the subject of network play for ICR2 came up, and we were told that it
wasn't going to happen.(priorities changed, or something)
In other words, they may ignore that segment of the user market...

OK, here's the deal on ICR 2 for Hawaii...

As part of our deal with NASCAR to become the 13th sanctioned
division, we all agreed that it was necessary to concentrate on NRL,
so we do not plan to bring ICR 2 to Hawaii anytime soon.  Believe me,
there's more than enough effort to just bring NRL/NASCAR 2 online!

Way back, when we first showed & taked about Hawaii, we were thinking
that we would bring ICR/ICR 2 online, along with other Papyrus games.
We were even toying with the idea of jumping into the low latency
online games business (e.g. Total Entertainment Network, MPath, etc.).
Time & experience brought us to the point where we realized 2 things:

1) We are in the content business, not the network service business.
Let's leave low latency data networks to someone else.  Frankly, we
don't see a ton of long-term promise in that area.  Let's let the
other guys fight it out... it's going to become a commodity.  Let's
concentrate on killer content (games) and a great infrastructure
around it (leagues, scheduling, etc.) That's where our expertise lies.

2)  It is a lot more work than anyone every expected to A) make the
game work & make it fun; B) build the infrastructure around it; and C)
test & perfect the whole thing.

Once we started talking to NASCAR about the NASCAR Racing League, it
became pretty clear that we needed to focus 100% on NRL.  NRL is a
HUGE project.

Does this mean you'll never see IndyCar Racing online, or any other
Papyrus games online?  Absolutely not.  It's just that we need to do
them one at a time.

Ed!!!!!

Wail, sob, ahhhhhh!!! Life's not worth living anymore...... :(

The wail of 30 Indycar engines as 30 human drivers jockey for position
into the first corner at Elkhart Lake, no more easy outbraking into "the
keyhole", the joy of recreating the start of the US500 as we play "pace
lap pinball", trying to thread 30 total nutters around Detroit without
incident, not to mention sitting behind the pace car for about an hour
if you bring out a yellow at Elkhart-  how can we be denied this!?

Tell me you're going to give us a NASCAR Hawaii connection in Europe, or
that ICR2/95 will have networking support and I'll forgive you and call
off the *** mob....!

Yours hopefully....
John

PLEASE call off the *** mob... but I can't promise ICR2 network
support.  There will be 2-player support, but not >2 on a LAN.

As for NRL connections in Europe, as I've said in other posts, that is
a function of the network provider that we partner with.  We're
working on it.

It's great to hear a company that understands its strengths and
limitations. Too many companies get the scent of money and try to get into
businesses that they aren't suited for, either due to capital requirements
or skill sets, etc. Case in point is INN and Sierra. Sierra is a great
content company, but knows nothing about putting together the
infrastructure for a national communication network.

Let the phone companies and cable companies figure out how to build the
networks. Focus on what you do well and partner with someone who can
provide the infrastructure. I'd hate to see Papyrus go under by biting off
too much. The NRL is exciting stuff and undoubtedly the most important
product you have in the works at the moment. Keep up the great work!

Well, we can't do that...  The problem is licensing.  We do not have
the rights to use the ICR2 tracks in NASCAR 1.x or NASCAR 2.  In order
to let you all use them online, we have to have the tracks on our
servers.  We can't do that.

Sorry!  :-(

Hey Ed.

It seems the only reason we can't do it now is that you can't select it
from the list of tracks....   It works H2H using multi.   It works null

Whats bull about this is that Papyrus said on the game when I
bought it it would support 32 players. I believe thats false advertising.
I bought the game with that in mind, I am going to school so moneys tight
and to be jipped by a software co. pisses me off. If Papyrus is gonna sit
here and tell everyone one thimg and not do it there has to be some legal
action to take. I for one am tired of the run around I get. Plus ICR2 is
so buggy you cant run a race without somthing stupid happening. I really
am doubting the quality of products of this company.

I'm sorry too, Ed.   We will just have to live with that one.
Thanks for the response.   Do you get frustrated with all this licensing
stuff too?
When it's time to play, it's tough to think about limitations.   Yeah, I
know it all protects someone down the line...but play time is PLAY time.
