Hi,

Anyone heard anything about Cart Precision Race. The main goal of Microsoft
is an more arcade game or a realistic sim, in the same level (of realism)
of the Papyrus games? Is there any preview, or demo, or screenshots?

Microsoft's press release said the game is so realistic, it would be used
by CART to program in new tracks and see how the cars would respond to the
track/surface/heat/altitude.  Sounds not a lot like arcade.

CART Precision Racing is a *** realistic sim, with over 50
individual settings in the garage alone.  CART simulates the 1997
PPG CART World Series, with all 17 races on the venue.

Jeez!  That sounds fantastic!

I've looked at the site of the developers, www.terminalreality.com, and
the screen shots look excellent.

Has anyone played their other games, like Micrsoft Monster Truck Madness
or Terminal Velocity?  Perhaps the quality of these games might be an
indicator of the quality of CART Precision Racing.

Has Microsoft or TV given any indication of a release timeframe?

Well Teminal Velocity is not a racing game, so I never played it.
But Monster Truck, is one of the best "OFF road" , games.
Very accurate physics model, graphics are very smooth,
with 3d Card :),  but It lacked good setup options, it had
only 3 settings.

Judging from the screenshots at Terminal Reality's site, if this thing
has good car physics, AI, and 3D implementations,  Papyrus is dead meat.

It looks like CART Precision Racing requires a P500 to run. All the new
games (especially NFS 2) require rocket machines to run decently.  I got
40 megs of RAM, but I only have a P90.  Looks like an overdrive chip
this Christmas.

This would not be the first, and I'm sure not the last,
prognostication of Papyrus' demise... Your statement has three pretty
big ifs in it. Even if all three were to come true <sound of breath
being held>, I'm not sure Papyrus is dead...

Hi Jim,
Good to see there are still some loyal folks out here!  :)

Any idea when Papyrus will release *it's* next CART title?
<sound of MY breath being held>

Or fix the one they've already released?
<sound of lungs exploding>...

It'll take more than a bunch of screen shots to convince me this game is
a world beater.  Yes, the screen shots look GREAT...but until there's a
product, who's to say whether it's another ICR2 (which plays great,
looks okay) or an F1 (which looks great, but plays like crap).

At least we know these guys did a decent job with the physics in Monster
Truck Madness.

It sure doesn't look like they did everything they could with the
dashboard.  And the screenshot of Greg Moore's car shows that the game
is "kid proof"....no tobacco (and probably ***) sponsor names
allowed.  Will this game allow us to paint cars to match the real thing?

This game won't kill Papyrus regardless.  It might wake them up a bit
and maybe we'll see ICR3.  Hell...Papy could repackage ICR2 with 3Dfx
support and call it Papyrus CART 3D and I'd buy the damn thing no
questions asked...

Yes, but for us CART fans, Papyrus has been dead meat for over six
months (at least as far as ICR development/support, although the game
still plays pretty good).

That said, good to see you're still around here Jim! (been too busy
to stop by the past few months myself) and I'm looking forward to GPL
for the next Papyrus open-wheel fix...  :)

Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking...  Did he complain
to five or six postmasters last month?  Now, you must ask yourself one
question: "Do I feel lucky?"  Well, do you, punk?

I agree.  But it is a decent start.  What really scares me is that they've
made no attempt to get any features out in the public, other than a "realistic
physics model".  Come on - just give us some dirt.

I saw and played the demo, and I didn't think much of it.  It was decent, but
Nascar2 is a much better thrill.

I sure hope so - that's what makes the Papyrus games so great - that we can
fill in the blanks that licensing caused.  If they don't, I'd bet sales
would be hurt big time.

I agree, but I'm a bit worried.  Would CART give *official* licensing status
to competing PC titles?  And would all the cars/tracks be included on both?  I
hope we'll have both - the competition would be great for us buyers.  I just
hope we're not left with a step backward from ICR2.

Papyrus won't be making ICR3,  because thry have lost the official cart
license.  I don't see whats the big fuss about ICR2,  the graphics looks
like space invaders from the early 80's,  the cars handling is way to
sloppy,  it feels as if you are driving on ice.

"Papyrus dead meat"?!!!
That, I very much doubt!!
What this new Microsoft product will do is to keep the other developers on
their toes.....which is all the better for you and I.
