BTW, I'm sure someone will probably say that those times are from four
months of practice, and that's why I can race competitively with the AI. The
Monza, Silverstone, and Imola times were first set during the last few days
of March, and the first day or two of April. I still have the hotlaps.

Dave H most of the regulars from Vroc wont post here anymore as there's
too much 'BullShit' as you see! So they opt to stay off! This is the
majority
of Vroc'er regulars too not the minority!!
Food for thought: How many posts have you seen from the true hotshoes
here during past year?? Not many.

<snipped>
|   I agree we are not the end-all be-all of sim knowledge.  But for what it
| is worth,  the few times I do get on Vroc,  I rarely recognize the
drivers.

On the other hand... does anybody care what the VROC hotshoes have to say?
;-)

And what's the difference? -it's just another bunch of guys bullshitting...
only they do so in chat instead of on a newsgroup.

Jan whatever you think or don't [which means diddly-shit in the real world}
its sad that there are many extremely talented sim racers in Vroc that could
offer a lot to many! Even your 'ego-serving-self Jan but "O" well your loss!
So give yourself another kiss when you go by your mirror..

Iain,

I'd love to see a 15 lap race done against Expert AI in a Williams
at Melbourne that shows that you are able to not be punted, can
dive up the inside and outbreak the AI into the corner and the
AI conceeding the corner. Having to rely on corners where the AI
just can't accelerate out of effectively is poor.

I've tried many races where I'm generally punted at least once and
I'm unable to brake any later without visiting the grass *or* attempting
to dive under and outbrake the AI and being half a car length infront
before they turn into me and my rear wheel hitting their front. (I
guess I don't have to tell you what happens next...)

I'll grant you that mistakes that are often blamed on the AI can be your
own fault, but hitting a 1st gear corner from top speed and braking after
the 100m marker causes you to get punted is exceptionally frustrating.

Cheers,
Rod.

Can you accept large emails?  Are you on broadband?  If so, I'll do a 6 lap
race at Albert Park later and send you the replay.  That should probably be
about 5Mb.  Let me know.

Melbourne is one of the toughest tracks to pass someone (next to Monte
Carlo). Not an easy request.

I just did a race at Melbourne in expert mode (I am not very good at
Melbourne actually) and on lap 2 I pass Mr. *** himself (Michael
Schumacher) by outbraking him into turn 3 which is really one of the few
places in real life you can outbreak an opponent on that track.  It's only 1
meg zipped so I sent it on to you.

Thanks David,

I'll keep an eye out. Hasn't hit my hotmail account yet.

Turn 3 is the turn I have most problems with and get punted most
often on. I brake after the 100m board and the AI still outbrakes
me. If I try and go any deeper I end up in the gravel trap.

Cheers,
Rod.

to clarify.  i'm not a GPL guru.  Actually, I still have a >100
gplrank.  I managed all my best times with a psx joypad.  I only
recently bought my first wheel and am struggling to unlearn my bad
joypad habits and drive with a balanced brake and throttle.

I am currently relearning to play GPL with no-aids and am having a
hard time of it.  I don't have 1000's of hours experience, but
definately way over 200 :) Most of it with a joypad though.  darn.

As for F1RC, I tend to play with the AI on expert or just one below.
I still have the a little bit of throttle control and abs enabled so
even there I'm not at full difficulty.  I'm seriously thinking now
that playing F1RC is spoiling my GPL learning, but dammit, its just
sooo satisfying to play.

Eldred, regarding your point about skills transfer from GPL to other
games, I guess it is true to an extent, but GPL seems to require a few
different skills than the modern games.  I can switch pretty quickly
between GP3, F1RC & F12000CS, but the different grip, wickedd
throttle, turning with brake & throttle, etc, make playing GPL a very
diffent beast for me.

Anyway, my reverence for GPL is undisputed.  I intend to put in a lot
of laps at kyalami today.  I also intend to play Silverstone with F1RC
just to get me in the mood for the F1 today.

Tonight, I will probably have a little time with Gran Turismo 2 on the
emulator.

I'm not a zealot.  GPL isn't my religion.  F1RC certainly isn't the
best game I've ever played, but for me, its worth playing.  The patch,
if one ever arrives, had better be worth the wait.

enjoy the F1 & CART today all of you.  my predictions are maclarens
dominating the early to middle race, but michael finishing ahead of DC
anyway.  1-2 for Penske.  Helio 2nd.

*embarassedly asks*  is there any Nascar on today? (I have no idea).

Regards all,
istoff

Somehow I don't think so, sorry. Their GPL experience is profoundly
different from mine (limiting things to the hotshoes here). There is more of
a gap than 50 seconds on GPLRank. A cultural difference, if you like.

BTW: I don't throw myself a kiss when I pass a mirror... I use the classic
Duke Nukem line. ;-)

Fwiw "istoff"
Yes Nascar WC is on the TV here 2:30pm EDT US..
Also I would feel most here in R.A.S. will agree with your assessment
in regards to any game-sim. Just the thought of anyone worshiping any
game-sim is ludicrous, idiotic & immature... Plus anyone who elude or
even infer about this should grow up.
Bottom line: These are all only stupid games on a pc!! I enjoy the***
out of many racing & non'racing games but the day I or anyone bows
to these 'game-sims' as anything more then a 'game' better get a life!

You seem to enjoy taking cheap shots.  Not that some haven't done it to you,
but nothing will be accomplished by doing it back...

People have different tastes.  What I enjoy might not be what you enjoy.  I
think I remember you liking CMR, or something like that.  I can't STAND rally
sims.  I bought Rally Championship by Europress.  I didn't like it, and it's
collecting dust on my shelf.  Does that mean that I don't enjoy other sims?
Well, I didn't enjoy THAT one.  That's all you can really say.  Some of the
guys you're verbally sparring with have mentioned many other sims that they
also enjoy(Viper, N4, GP3, the list goes on...).  Just because they don't
happen to like F1RC makes them evil people?  Why?

I haven't played GP3 or F12CS recently, because of controller issues.  I don't
own F1RC yet, but I seem to buy almost every racing that comes out eventually.

Yes - at 2pm Eastern, I believe.
