F1GP2 - Hardware Requirements

by Jonathan Dys » Tue, 20 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Hello there, does anyone know what kind of hardware F1GP2 will need to run on?
The first one ran fine on a 486DX33 at 25 frames per second (which is what I
have) but somehow, I can't see the new game running on the same hardware??!!
Does anybody actually know?

Cheers,
Jonathan

PC Gamer said that it runs on a DX266 in VGA, and a P90 for SVGA. PC Zone says it runs perfectly on a P90
in VGA [25 FPS] but its a bit choppy in SVGA. PC Zone is more likely not to be exagerrating! [We all know
about PC Gamer's track record]

I read a review in PC Zone and it said if you turn the detail down
it will run on a DX2/66 with a decent frame rate, but what does
decent imply?? Anything less than 18fps are not decent.

For SVGA the reviewer said that a "ninja" PC was necessary!
I guess it means a high end Pentium, like a P133 or higher,
but I don't know for sure.

I would recommend you to upgrade. It's obvious that if you want
to get the most out the new games you ought to have at least
a P133 and at least 16Mb of RAM and a good well supported video card
like the Diamond Stealth.

Microprose has stated that the minimum spec machine for the game will
be a 486/66 (VGA mode). However, I suspect that if you were to remove
all texture mapping options and reflections etc. (ie reduce the
graphics to F1GP level), then you would get away with playing it
on a 486/33.
