GPL - Anymore patches?

by Kev » Sat, 25 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Is anyone working on any more patches for GPL? If so what's in them? Any
chance the best laps table can be extended to include Osring, Brands and
Snetterton etc.

GPL - Anymore patches?

by Alison Hin » Sat, 25 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I believe Papyrus has taken the position that they don't intend to patch
GPL again.  They are focusing on their next product and don't want to be
distracted from it, which I understand.

I can't see how a flurry of snail mail to Sierra, however, could do any
harm.  I feel that Sierra and Havas (and Papyrus) would benefit from a
clear indication of the level of passion GPL has generated among its
fans.  This can only be of benefit to the chances of another road-racing
sim from Papyrus at some time in the future.

BTW, I've begun to compile a list of changes I'd like to see in a future
patch to GPL, if there ever were such a thing.

Saving best laps for expansion tracks is on my list, as is addressing
the disconnect problems when racing online.  I'd also like to see the
host have the option of allowing Shift-R with realistic damage mode,
with black flag pit stop penalties for the use of Shift-R.

When online, I'd also like to see more cars to the rear when they are
closer than the cars in front, and I'd like to see winked-out cars
reappear as translucent (with collision detection disabled for that car)
and gradually become solid, as happens in Viper.  I have many more
ideas, as I'm sure you and many other GPL fans do.

I've put addresses for Sierra at the bottom of this email.

GPL - Anymore patches?

by David L. Coo » Sat, 25 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I got the word directly from a source at Papy.  No more patches for GPL are
planned.  As far as tracks or addons by third parties, I would suspect that
they will continue.

Mwuhahahahahaha.

Sure, please tell me where I can get (stable!) DirectX 7.0 drivers for
Windows 98, ME, or 2000......

And, believe me, when Papyrus will release their new game, normally
they do that end summer/early fall (NH), you already have a new
graphics card....

Haha

I have seen posts that get mad at Papy for releasing a GPL Patch (this is
from a GPL Supporter btw) when they should have been working on N4, now I
see a post that gets mad at Papy for not releasing another patch.

I feel sorry for the software companies, it is a no-win game for them.  (as
far as satisfying the customers)

Could you at least update it, since IIRC it's been at least a year since you
post this hilarious message.  Native Rendition rasterizer.  Hmmm sure, are
we going back to 1997?  :)
