GPL flags?

Is there a reason why a white flag means there's a car stuck on the road,
and a yellow flag means last lap in GPL? It seems to be the reverse of
today. Have the meaning of the flags changed between 67 and now?

Yellow flag means a spin/crash/car off ahead, just like in other forms of
racing. There is no flag for last lap - "L1" on your pitboard is the only
indicator.

You may have seen flags being waved on your last lap if the leader had
already finished. As in real F1, the marshals wave their flags around once
the race is finished (on the cool down lap).

Multi-coloured waving flags on the cool down.

But what is a white flag for?  Is it a "real" flag? I *think* I remember
reading about the D3D renderer messing up the colours sometimes.

I get a white flag when I should be seeing a blue flag (about 50% of the
time).

White means "slow car ahead". Don't see it very often online because people
usually Shift+R if they are damaged but AI cars will limp back to the pits
if they can.

If you see a white flag then a dawdling car, it was a valid white flag.
Otherwise it may be a rendering problem. Dunno, blue flags work fine for me
on my V3.

I think you're being confused by the use of the white flag for
last lap in the CART (and probably other series).

A quick check reveals that the white flag is still used today in F1
for indicating a slow or stopped car on the track.

As for the yellow flag, I cant comment on the history of that except that
today it is not defined as 'car stuck on the track', but in fact means
'danger ahead - be prepared to slow down or stop'.

That's right - the colour problems only happen with the D3D renderer (you
must be using Glide if you have a V3 - at least I hope you would!).

I haven't noticed a problem with the blue flags, but I am using the D3D
renderer since I'm on a GeForce 2 card nowadays.

That's possible. In CART, you have a difference in meaning between a waved
yellow and a standing yellow flag too.

I don't recall seeing too many white flags in F1 races that I see on tv
these days, they seem to be yellows and occasionally reds.
