SP2 and N2003

Dear old Microsoft has released a list of programs that may be adversely
affected (that is, they may not run at all) by Service Pack 2, here:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

NASCAR Racing 2003 is among them.  Oh dear.

Anybody encountered any probs they'd like to share?

Basically what you'll need to do is just disable the free firewall that is
in windows after you install SP2, shouldn't be that difficult.

Don't be so foolish.  If it's a firewall issue, just disable it.  Myself, I
don't use the Windows' firewall or any of the other security features turned
on by default.  I have a router and am not apt to open up things that look
suspicious.

I have no problems with SP2 and ***, though I haven't tried N2003 in
particular.

Yeah, as usual, MS isn't saying exactly what's wrong...just darkly hinting
that there might be, ahem, some <cough> problems <cough>.  Could just be
something like turning on indexing or turning off the firewall...or it might
set yer hard drive on fire and burn yer house down.  (I note that half the
pgms. that are *** on SP2 are from The Beast of Redmond itself!)

See also that Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is on SP2's sh*tlist...but I
didn't think any of the *serious* simmers on this forum would care....

I'll post if I see anything more definitive.

The only problem that would be caused is that you wouldn't be able to
connect to the server because the firewall would block your connection. It
isn't going to burn down your house...simply block you from connecting.

The mods would make no difference whatsoever.  Since N2003 works, the mods
will not be affected by SP2

Yeah, sure.  Achim T. insists Win 98 is as good or better than XP (and has
evidence to back it up), but my own experience w. XP is that it's more
stable (not faster).  I figure, as a modernist, I owe it to my street cred
to know how to make my way around XP.  I've dutifully d/l'd SP1 and all the
little updates, but I hesitate w. SP2 'cuz it's so late to the party and
surely promises more than it can deliver.  I'm just trying to stay ahead of
trubble.

But don't misunnerstan me; I still think billg is the anti-Christ....
