CPR: PCGAMES Feb98 Review

Who is really crapping who here? I have no idea who Andy Mahood
is, but he doesn't know jack squat about PC racing sims that is for sure.
I would really encourage everyone to waste and throw away $7.99 to
purchase this issue and read his review of CPR. This is a blatant rip-off
by someone who does not know what in the hell they are writing about.
The game got a B- and not one single mention was made about the
horrid AI (which ruins the game actually). His complaint was about the
driving physics in the car! Hello??? This is really an excellent review to
point to for false reviewing and outright bullshit editorial control.
Obviously
his bosses don't know how screwed it is either! Boy am I glad my
subscription is running out. I pity the poor soul that buys this game
based on that review. Oh ya... He reviewed it on a P5-133 Rendition
system. HAHA!

WTF is going on here? Are these people really that stupid?

I think I will go and by that issue of Pc games just to read the review and
see how it turned out on a p133 because I play it on a p150 and it runs
fine. Everone is entitled to thier own opinion.
and I assume you have a P200 to play with, and not everyone can afford that
type of system.

A couple months ago, Computer *** World did a preview of some of the racing
sims that are out now, but I don't think they had any idea what they were doing
either.  There were obvious mistakes (to race fans anyway) like they spelled
Bob Varsha's name "Bob Barcia".  Now mabye they could get away with that, but
they called the IRL the IRT.  Indy Racing Trucks????  Well, all I know is that
if you are looking for good info on race sims, mags are not the place to get
it.  Anyone found a mag that knows ANYTHING about racing??

Both 'Autosports' and 'F1 Racing' seem to do a reasonable job.

Their knowledge of computer games will be correspondingly thinner
though. We need both.

Cheers!

sims, mags are not the place to get it.  <<

I have to agree here. I've read a number of reviews that sound like the
writer is simply on the payroll of the games producer and have given a
completely inappropriate representation on a sims' good and bad points.

Perhaps sometimes its just laziness on the part of the reviewer but who
knows ?

Recently I saw a review of Andretti Racing that basically said it was a
state
of the art simulator that pushed the sim racing envelope. It recommended it
as a  great buy. One has to wonder
if the reviewers who write this kind of rubbish even open the box.

Every now and then you see a good ( ie accurate ) review. Perhaps its
notable that over the years the magazines that used to do righteous reviews
have one by one disappeared. Maybe without the 'help' of the big games
companys honest magazines find it hard to continue. A real shame.

There seems to be many pro company people around trying to stop the
truth about certain games from reaching the public before we get ripped
off. And it runs to places outside magazines as well. NGs and message
boards are polluted with these types all the time. Remember when CPR was
released. So many people on the pro side it was a joke. Why they don't
just spend this time/money creating good software is a testament to this
planets spastic orientation.
