I have a Diamond V770 TNT2 card and cannot get it to run NASCAR 2. Has
anyone gotten this card to work with N2?

Matt,

I doubt you will get it to work.  I have CL's TNT2 and cannot get it to work
with NR1999, either.  That damn engine for Nascar is so old it's unlikely
anything will work.  I use my Voodoo 2 and it works fine.

On systems with similar configurations, there are two things that you can do
to get the game up and running. The first is to set the sound in NASCAR 2 up
for Sound Blaster compatibility. The second is to disable the introduction
video from playing. I will now provide detailed instructions on doing both-

Sound Setup

Go to START, PROGRAMS, MS-DOS Prompt.  Once you're at the DOS prompt, type
SET and hit [ENTER].  You should see a line that looks something like the
following:
BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6

This line will give you all the information you should need to setup your
sound card properly.  The number after the "A" is the card's Address, the
number after the "I" is the card's IRQ, and the number after the "D" is the
card's DMA.  You will also generally have a "T" setting, but not always.
The "T" represents which type of SoundBlaster(SB) compatibility you need to
set your soundcard to in the sound setup of NASCAR 2.

T1= SB Mono
T4= SB Pro Mono
T6= SB 16 Stereo
No "T" setting or any other number "T" will represent SB Stereo.

Write down the BLASTER= line for later use.  Now type EXIT and press
[ENTER].  You should now be back to your Win9x desktop.  Next go to START,
PROGRAMS, SIERRA and click NASCAR Racing 2 Sound Setup.  On the right hand
side of the Sound Setup screen you will see four headings; Sound Card,
Address, IRQ and DMA.  Using the drop down arrows select the appropriate
value for each heading based upon the information gathered from the BLASTER=
line.  Once this is done click EXIT and try the game.

If none of these works, you will may want to shut down the machine into DOS
mode and try the Sound Setup there.  To shut down into DOS mode, click
START, SHUTDOWN, and select Restart in MS-DOS Mode.

DOS 5.0 or higher Sound Setup instructions.

Once you're at a DOS prompt, type SET and hit [ENTER].  You should see a
line that looks something like the following:
BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6

T1= SB Mono
T4= SB Pro Mono
T6= SB 16 Stereo
No "T" setting or any other number "T" will represent SB Stereo.

Write down the BLASTER= line for later use.

Change to the NASCAR 50th directory by typing CD\NASCAR2, if you installed
NASCAR 2 to a different location change to that directory instead.  (NOTE:
the default is \SIERRA\NASCAR2 for a Win9x install and \NASCAR2 for a  DOS
install.)  Next type SETUP.EXE and press [ENTER].  This will start the
NASCAR Racing 2 Sound Setup Utility.  On the right hand side of the Sound
Setup screen you will see four headings; Sound Card, Address, IRQ and DMA.
Using the drop down arrows select the appropriate value for each heading
based upon the information gathered from the BLASTER= line.  Once this is
done click EXIT and close the DOS window that is left behind..

Disabling the Introduction Video

Double-click the My Computer icon.

Double-click your C drive.

Double-click the Sierra folder.

Double-click the NASCAR2 folder.

Look for a file called N2.bat (or just N2, it looks like a little white box
with a blue bar across the top). Right-click on this file, then click Edit
from the pop-up menu.

Look for a line that looks like this-

smackply D:\intro.smk /U1 /N

The letter D: represents the CD ROM drive letter, yours may be different.

Modify the line so it looks like this (DO NOT change the CD ROM drive
letter)

REM smackply D:\intro.smk /U1 /N

Click File, then click Save. Close all open windows on your screen and start
the game normally.

        My understanding is Voodoo3's do, too.  Hmmm... TNT2=no work;
Voodoo3=work.

N2 only supports Rendition out of the box, with one of the patches it also
supports Glide.  It doesn't support OpenGL or D3D which is necessary for any
non-3dfx or Rendition card to work. NR99 is in the same boat.  Supposedly N3
will have D3D support and Glide support.
