Hey Ray I'll help ya out!, If you wana play modem dont wast your
freagin' time!, Im a veteran ICR2 fanatic
and have been practicing GP2 for some time to get ready to be good comp
for my modem buddies only to find
out when i played via modem the framerate was chopped in half!!
Microprose and Geoff Crammond musta had their head up their ass when
they released this sim with the half ass modem config program. I mean
its irritating
to have such a great graphical and feelable driving sim only to find out
you can only race computer cars!
I run a p133/32meg/s34megvram\ and still have to turn every thing off to
get a desent framrate. Hell I might as well be playing GP1!!! If you
really want to play this game modem, dont spend all day trying to get it
to work, I promise, you will only be dissappointed! Hopefully you still
have your reciept and you can get your fifty bucks back! Its amazing we
had to wait this long for a game that wasnt even close to all the
bullshit hipe!!

Hi Scott!

I hope you can help me.  I have a US Robotics internal 28.8 modem and it
doesn't even want to initialize, it displays MODEM LINK FAILED after it
tries to initialize with the default US Robotics string in the CHOOSE
MODEM menu.

Can you help me out?

Thanks!

To everyone that is having trouble with modem connections or direct
links for gp2...

You must use the command switch "gp2 use16550" This tells gp2 to use the
faster uart chip set for the com port. Why they set the default to the
old comm port I donnot know!! Maybe that's one thing that can be fixed
in the fabled patch. I have had 2 P133 with a direct link run real
(without the anoying pause every few seconds!!) time by using the above
method.

If you are using a modem connection, then you need an init string that
turns off error correction for your modem. Error correction slows down
the link, so check your modem manual and turn it off.

Does the modem work with other comms packages? Try using hyperterminal
in windows 95, and use a direct connect to the modem. Type in  " at "
and press return and if you don't get "  OK "  back then you need to
either change your com port or turf the modem all together and get an
external one. I haven't had a lot of experience with internals, but a
lot of people have said they are troublesome.
Once you get the modem sending you back an "OK" from hyper terminal,
record the com port, then set up gp2 with the same settings and
hopefully Bobs your Auntie!!
If you can't talk to the modem with HyperTerminal, then it aint gonna
work with ANY games.

Regards Scott
