Voodoo 2 SLI.. worth it??

by James Pickar » Wed, 09 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I play ALL sims..   and am thinking of getting another Voodoo 2 to run
in SLI mode..

Is it worth it??   They are really cheap now...

I have a Celeron 333 that I sometimes overclock to 500..

I play SCGT..  GPL. (mainly)..  and others...

I would like to get FULL detail  (full res.  details..  bais etc..)  in
GPL..  Will this do it??

Plz Get back to me soon ..

Thanx

For many sims, especially if you can run at 500mz, a second V2 will
give you acceptable framerates at 1024x768 (if supported). As I only
played Warbirds before adding my 2nd V2 to my 450 (so I could run at
1024), I can't say exactly what effect it will have for you. For $49
its not a bad deal. I run GPL at 36fps with all details high in 1024,
if thats any help to you.

voodoo2 12meg card. (GPL) I just added a second voodoo
card i got from the deal that creative labs is offering online
and i have to say it's worth it. I wanted to buy a voodoo 3
3000 agp but with all the problems i read about i went the
sli route instead. My 2d card is a rage 128 16meg agp card
that works really well in windows and other older games.

Thanx Steve...

Sounds good...    I have heard that 2 x Voodoo 2 SLI are faster than a single
Voodoo3??

Doesn't really matter.. I can't afford a V3. but I can afford another V2....

SOOOOO..   what do I have to do to SLI them???   It envoles a cable across
from the 2 of them ..  or something..    can you give any tips??

What do I have to do??

Thanx...

2 Vodooo2s are faster than the Voodoo3-2000
I am pretty sure the 3000 is faster than the 2 Voodoo2s though. And
the 3500 will kill all of the above.

Slot the Voodoo2 into a spare PCi slot, connect them using the
supplied SLI cable (It connects to the double row of pins in the top
left corner of your existing V2 board).

Well, according to benchmarks on Tom's hardware page a v3_2000 is
slightly slower than v2_SLI, but you can overclock the v3_2000 to
v3_3000 performance, which should be faster then v2_SLI.

I take anything from Toms with a mountain of salt now.
Overclocking video cards is not for everyone, and no one knows the
longterm effects of overclocking the V3s yet, they havent even got a
fan! :(

Voodoo 2 SLI.. worth it??

With my Voodoo2 SLI setup, I can play NFS3 very smoothly at 1024x768 on my
P2-266 with 64MB.  I have all options turned to their highest.  Quick tip:  in
the advanced options, you have 4 choices:  near, medium, far, and FULL.  Be
sure you pick FULL or you'll see the far parts of the road appear suddenly
ahead of you.  Very annoying, to me at least.
