VOODOO 2 SLI

Hi,
I think I allready know the answer to this question, but is it
possible to set up 2 voodoo cards (SLI) that are manufactured by
different companies? One is a 12MB (creative), the other is 8MB
(Diamond). I am pretty sure the answer is no, but the reason I ask is
because when I got the 12MB (Creative), I put the card in a computer
which still had the other Daimond Voodoo 2 drivers on it , and the card
worked fine and actually got a higher 3D benchmark (using 3DMark) than
what it did when I later put its own drivers on....
    Can anybody help? thanx :-)

When I bought my second voodoo2 card DiamondMM told me I needed a card of
the same size and manufacturer as my original one. That doesn't mean it
won't work though.

I *believe* that the newest 3dfx reference drivers allow for mismatch of
12MB and 8MB.
They DEFINITELY allow different manufacturers, because Metabyte did this
quite a while ago and 3dfx incorporated it into their drivers.

But I *believe* that the 8MB and 12MB combo regards both cards as 8MB.

I have a STB 12mb Voodoo2 card, would I see better performance with a
Voodoo3 or by adding 2nd Voodoo2 card.? 3dfx is offering a $30 rebate on
their Voodoo2 card. So I could get one for aroung $50.

Thanks,

You can try this link,  http://home.earthlink.net/~aosnovich/  .  Once you
get past the guy's picture, he does have some interesting info on
mis-matched SLI setups, including drivers and patches.  Good luck.

My friend can run my 12M Best Data and his 12M AOPEN unit in SLI w/o any
trouble.
Mixing 8 and 12M cards doesn't sound promising, but I'm just guessing at
that.

3Dmark99Max "Race" and "FPS" both show a ~60% performance boost when SLI is
engaged.
Fill rate nearly doubles. (AIR)
To our dismay, GPL doesn't seem to run any faster at 800 or 1024 res.

A V3 2000 will match SLI performance and give you the ability to run
resolutions as high as your processor can handle.  If you like
tinkering, a V3 2000 with an added fan can clock to almost V3 3500
levels (in SOME cases, it's not a given).
