That's a gross misrepresentation. Daytona has an obligation to defend their
property (the name and likeness of the track) or lose it. They licensed
that property to Sega, which means that they had an obligation to Sega to
defend Sega's licensed interest in that property. Now along comes someone,
innocent or not, who is infringing on those property rights. Daytona has no
choice but to ask them to stop, that's just the way property laws work.
Not once, did I ever hear any "corporate big-wigs" promise to put Daytona
in N2. What was actually said, by either Ed or Adam, was that continued
efforts to make an infringing version of Daytona would likely sabotage
Papyrus' efforts to secure the rights to it.
I heard Marc Nelson (SRN) say recently that Sega had managed to secure
exclusive rights to Daytona for another 3 years. If so, that means no
Daytona for N2, and perhaps no Daytona for N3. But before you start
lambasting Papyrus for it, get the facts straight: It was never in their
hands to decide this. As I understand it, Sega's agreement with ISC gave
them an option to renew their exclusive rights, and it appears that they
exercised that option. Se Fine.
