Just for the record, we do have an interactive exhibit of a qualifying
run at the Daytona USA amu***t facility. That track model is not
compatible with the off the shelf version of NASCAR 1. In fact, we
excluded Daytona from our in-house racing series because we didn't have
the Daytona track in the right format for us to use. We don't have it,
and even if we did, we do not have the rights to release it in any form.

Jim,

Shoot straight with us, is there ANY chance that we will see the Daytona track
for NASCAR 2 in 1997???

All we want to know is if there is a chance.

Seeing is its all about $$$$, how many of us would pay sega 5$ on top
of the track cost just to race at daytona? I probably would, sega would
make some $$$ for doing nothing and we could all just get along. Or is
that too simple????

DAYTONA USA is a big piece of shit - you think that Daytona would want their
track represented by a professional simulation software firm rather than some
3rd rate arcade piece of crap....  I can't believe SEGA got the rights for 3
more years.  Daytona must be as screwed up as Indy these days.....

>    All the 5$ is for is the right to use the daytona name- (like a sublet aprtment?) like you I think the sega version blows wind, in fact without the daytona name it probly wouldn't sell at all. By paying sega for the priviledge of using a track that should be here anyway, we would also be paying them to stay out of the product that was produced. Here's 5$, you see nothing, you hear nothing, you know nothing, Get it? that's also why it won't happen, cuz the laywers wouldn't have nothig to do after they wrote the 2 sentences it would take to do it.

Question-Why in the hell would Daytona sell rights to Sega when Daytona
USA is just a game with 1 mile and a half or so oval that doesn't look
anything like Daytona and two freakin road coarses? My god! They must be
the dumbest sons da ***es in the world! Why didn't they just name
their game Pocono Usa? The track looks like Pocono anyways. I'd rather
race the high banks of Daytona than the flat boring turns of Pocono.
Solution-Sierra should make a track exactly like Daytona called "Dayton"
That way it could be a fantasy track in Dayton, OH. Then, include a
track editor to add the "a" on the wall. Just my $0.02
Happy New Year
Have fun Tonight!

The almighty dollar my friend. Daytona is a bigger name than Pocono
(by far), and Sega was willing to pay multiple millions of dollars for
the rights to use the Daytona name. From a counting-the-beans business
standpoint, Daytona did the right thing...

If Sega wants to license my name for that kind of money, they sure as
hell can!!!

OK - I understand everything said but one question begs to be asked:

Is there any chance of getting Daytona for Nascar vX.x before the current
contract with Sega expires (i.e. Is Papyrus/Sierra thinking about/currently
pursuing an agreement with Sega to have this track made available) ?  I must
say I sincerely doubt Sega would go for such a thing, even if they were given
a cut of the royalties.  But it would be nice. *sigh*

One more question - is there another track pack in the works/being discussed?
Texas, Las Vegas and Indy would also be nice.

Later.

After all these posts. Has anyone been to the new Daytona USA attraction in
Daytona? Right in the middle of the place are 12 or so racing sims set up.
ALL of them are the Daytona track (very realistic) where you can run a
couple qualifying laps. This software is Papyrus NASCAR racing!. Not Sega!
Why have they let Papyrus build ans install the Daytona track ther eand not
released in NASCAR 2 is a good Q. for the Sierra folks and ISC
(International Speedway Corp.) Any Official Comments?

Keith Miller.

BTW I clocked 188.23 lap  there, they have a huge LED scoreboard with the
top 10 times. Very Cool.

Hapy New Year!

I don't know if it will help, but if this DAYTONA/SEGA arrangement
bothers anyone, try the discussion section of http://www.daytonausa.com/
This is the web site for International Speedway Corporation, the parent
company of Daytona, Talladega, etc.  Maybe ISC would be impressed by a
lot of postings from NASCAR sim fans.  After all, from their
perspective, this is ultimately about furthering the fan interest in the
real sport, isn't it?  NASCAR Racing has to be better at that than a
SEGA game. Maybe one of their bean-counters is a sim fan!
