LFS hacking

by J. Todd Wass » Sun, 08 Sep 2002 22:11:27

  After getting dusted in multiplayer the other day by two guys running slicks
and 1:31xx laps, then reading in the LFS forum about the hidden tires, I
starting poking around in LFS's setup files.  Haven't found anything else
interesting that you can't already do in LFS's setup screens, but thought
someone might want to know that the tires can be set by changing bytes 97(front
tires) and 137 (rear tires) to:

0 = race-slick
1 = race-grooved
2 = race-intermediate
3 = race-wet
4 = road-super
5 = road-normal
6 = hybrid
7 = knobbly

Meanwhile, byte 9 is max brake force, and byte 13 appears to be brake bias.  I
stopped there because it looks like everything besides the tires are much more
easily accessed through the game ;-)

They moved most things into the exe now :/
And im sure you got the torque-curves in there, aswell as engine-sounds.

Coolest find is the guy who enabled 4wd, complete with front and rear diffs
+ torquesplit settings in the garage now :)

too bad he wont release it since people only complain about cheaters all the
time *SIGH*.

See, it's REALLY COOL to see people poking around and learning about the
game and stuff.. that I like. I also like knowing that their program seems
really good and modular in a way, whcih means possibilities will be endless.
4WD rally cars, etc..

BUT, people using this stuff online... quite stupid.. quite stupid indeed.
Especially when trying to have a fair race. I hope there are controls or
something put into place..

at the same time, i'd LOVE to see how that 4WD car handles on the dirt..
it'd be great to do multplayer with 7 other guys all doin' 4WD.

Again, my only concern is multiplayer getting ruined by this sort of stuff,
when people do it sneakily.

The guy who did 4wd did a clever thing. He remade the textures on the
cheat-cars so they shows up online viewable :)

Im not gonna release the latest findings i did, liek changing to 8litre
engine, or increase rev of engine. Still have to find the 4wd thing :/
