O/T----Vid card trouble some help please?? ATI 9550

by V \ » Mon, 20 Sep 2004 23:04:18

I just picked up an ATI Radoen 9550 256m vid card. I wanted to replace my
9000pro, or at least upgrade my G/Fs TNT2 32m card. When I install it in my
machine, I get some weird video problems. All (or most anyway) pop-up
windows have jumbled or really messed up fonts at the top, in the blue area,
where it tells you what you are working on or opening. My zonealarm windows
that pop-up are also illegible. I cannot read the warning to save my life. I
tried running a couple of games and they just won't run or when they do,
can't see a damned thing. N2k3 starts (the version font at the bottom is
really fuzzy) and the the loading screen starts to flash and I have to
alt/tab/del to get out. My F1c ANY mod will start and run fine in soudn
only, the video is so bad I can't see anything other than some pointy spike
like "object" and I have no discernable car or menu. My mouse at least works
inside it and I can "feel" my way to the exit button. CFS2 looks
good....everything but the plane..it's just a garbled mess. The menus in
CFS2 are perfect. I have the install disk with drivers ver A4.6.1 and
downloaded the 4.9 as well. I've tried installing both and get the same
result. It turns out to NOT be an actual ATI card but a partner card and I
don't know the manufacturer. It does show as an ATI Radeon 9550 all
throughout the install and in my device settings. My 9000pro works just fine
in all my games, this is the first time I've had troulb ewith an ATI card.
Hoping somebody can help me sort this out, I really don't know much else
other than updating drivers and reinstalling my old one in frustration.
TIA
