Yeah, I avoided the GPL 1.1 patch due to the problems associated with it but
plan to install 1.2, for I want to begin online racing and take my
embarassing driving public.  So:

--Have any *new* little bugs been introduced?

--Will the patch override my saved best lap times/setups/replays/etc.?

--Do most people notice the changes in the physics model?

GPL 1.2 has been very thoroughly tested by a large group of experienced
online racers.  It has proven to be far superior to both GPL 1.0 and 1.1
for online racing, and has some enhancements for offline racing too.

The notorious clock bug in GPL 1.1 has been fixed in 1.2, along with a
fairly impressive number of lesser bugs.  I know of no new bugs, but in
a program this complex, it would take a brave person to state
categorically that no new bugs have been introduced.

As a result of improved collision detection, a more stable clock, and
improved client/server synchronization, it's now possible to race much
closer to other cars.  With the kind of tense, wheel to wheel and nose
to tail battles that are now possible, racing online can be very
exciting.

See the GPL 1.1 and 1.2 FAQs at http://vroc.net for more details.

No.  All your existing personal stuff stays intact when you install the
patch.

Some people find that the physics in 1.1/1.2 (they are identical) cause
the cars to oversteer more.  Other people find the cars understeer more.
Some people find the steering to be slower and more vague.  Others find
the steering to be more precise, with more feel.

Some people, myself included, find it almost impossible to detect any
difference between the physics in 1.1/1.2 and the physics in 1.0, except
for the addition of Force Feedback.

Online features aside, Force Feedback is probably the single most
significant enhancement in the GPL patches.  For me, FF has added a
whole new dimension to GPL.  The immersion factor is heightened, but
more importantly, my driving has improved due to the additional feedback
the wheel gives me about what the car is doing.  I'm fairly easily
breaking my personal best records just about everywhere using my FF
wheel.

See my Eagle Woman site for more details about Force Feedback:

Go to Help, Controllers, Force Feedback.

I hope to see you online soon!

It kinda sounded like you stayed away from the 1.1 altogether.  You
could be in for a suprise in that 1.1 and 1.2 put a limit on how low
your could set up your car.  If you have been happily circulating
offline with a lowslung car...you may feel awkward getting used to the
new ride height.  Alison's site has plenty of info to talk you through
the setups tho...Make sure you try her Ferrari setups, they were the
first efforts at raising the ride height I think.

Thanks for the plug, Dave!

Actually, none of my setups have ever used a ride height lower than 2.5
inches, so all of the setups authored by me that you'll find on my site
will work fine with GPL 1.2.
